Looks like Armalite has some STIFF competition. Bushmaster is FINALLY coming out with a .308 version of the AR-15.....this one takes FAL magazines, WITHOUT modifications!

This gives them a signifigant advantage over the AR-10, IMHO

AR-15 types taking FAL magazines have been tried before, and they've never worked. Basically, the FAL magazine has previously proved incompatible with the AR style bolt and magawell. Interesting to see if this Bushmaster example will work.

But great, super, now you AR guys are going to be buying up FAL magazines. :cuss:

EDIT: Where the heck is the ejection port?

EDIT AGAIN: MSPR is $1,760.00. That's...well, that's steep.

Sweeet!

Especially considering that it will take the cheap and plentiful FAL magazines.

This means that I will be compeled to buy another case of Aussie .308, and probably at least another 10 FAL metric mags in anticipation of getting one of these.

My only request for the folks at Bushmaster would be to offer the BAR-10 without the muzzle brake, with a chromed barrel, an A3-style removeable handle, and leave the option of retaining the traditional AR front sight on the flat-top version of the BAR-10.

If Bushy can make this work reliably with the FAL mags, then they will have a real winner on their hands.

Of course, once this AWB sunsets in Sept. it will be a very expensive AR variant that takes FAL magazines and not new produciton AR magazines.

Wow, cool, alright. Exactly what we need, more .308 ARs on the market. One little nitpick though... $1760!!

For that money I can afford a basic Armalite AR-10A2 AND enough 20 round magazines to get me by. (Admittedly, it's only about a $200 difference, but how many 20 rounders DOES one need?) Plus, the Armalite has the chrome-lined barrel everybody seems to need.

Cool and I hope it makes it, but until I want to make up a Match Rifle, I'll pass (and spend the $$ on ammo! :) ).

Wow... a traditional magazine release on MY side! :D

Now, if it were an A3, and around $1200, I'd be saving up already...

You could get a DSA for a lot less than that. The new SA-58s tend to run about $1200-$1400 in actual sales price. I expect this'll come in at around $1500, but the price might come down after awhile.

Personally, I'd wait on this; FAL mags in an AR have been tried, and it's never worked well. I'd wait until they got all of the bugs worked out, and I read some reviews.

EDIT: About hte ejection port...I see it has an ambi mag release. The original picture was a reversed version of the one at the top of this thread; it looked to be a standard configuration with no ejection port. I see that Bushmaster flipped the picture on their site. They probably got a lot of e-mails asking which way the rifle ejected, LOL.

I like it. I've never really cared for the look of the AR15 on steroids. But this one looks good.

As for the price that is the retail price. One can find a dealer that will get one for you for 10% over dealer price. Dealer price should be somewhere around $1200-$1300.

That's a little out my price range but if need be I can figure something out.

Blain,

Does this mean you've forgiven the AR-15/M-16 its faults?

Hmm....
DSA SA58 is cheaper. DSA SA58 is lighter. DSA SA58 doesn't crap where it eats. Basically, it STILL seems like the way to go....

hopefully in time it will go down a bit, its brand new so the hype will be big but in like a year or so hopeflly will will drop a bit...

I think this is really cool, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but the price tag is shoving me toward an FAL...
