I want to buy a beretta cx4 in 9mm as my first rifle and as a range gun but I want to know the forums opinion on the gun. I do not plan to buy automatic pistols (I'm old fashion and prefer revolvers) but I do like the weight, size, round and capacity of the magazines. I want to know what's good AND bad about this little carbine. Also can a cx4 that accepts px4 mags accept beretta 92 mags. I've heard from reviews the .40 s&w carbine can accept px4 mags an beretta 96 mags but I don't know if it's the same for the 9mm version.

It's not a rifle, it's a pistol cal carbine (PCC).

In my opinion, you should only get one of these after you have a real rifle.

Any PCC lacks the hitting power and range of a real rifle.

if your looking for an another carbine suggestion, Calico m960, I love mine, the only thing its missing is an red dot sight. Btw: they hold 50 or 100 rounds in there awsome mag

I believe that the Storm in a given caliber will accept Beretta mags in that same caliber, regardless of model. I think that was one of the marketing points for the weapon.
I have a CX4 Storm in .40 (and the accompanying Model 96) and I love it. It's a blast to shoot. Granted, I don't expect "rifle" accuracy, but I get really good groups (all holes touching) out to 50 yards using an Eotech sight. Decent groups out to 75 yards (not touching, but still within a couple of inches). Haven't tried shooting it at greater distances; pretty sure that wasn't it's purpose.
One nice thing is that if you don't have a place of your own to shoot, most of indoor ranges (near me anyway) will allow you to shoot a Storm, since it is a pistol caliber.
Not trying to pick an arguement with anyone, but if you want a Storm, you should get one. Just my 2 cents ...

They're a lot of fun, have great ergonomics, the most lefty-friendly firearm i've encountered, light, modular, etc. ...I'm a fan.

The 9mm version works with -92 mags, and PX4 9mm mags. Having the same mags for my pistol and carbine also saved me some loot when i got the carbine.

That being said, there are three negatives that come to mind; the prohibitive cost (i paid 650 for mine new right after they came out, i think they're up to like 850 now..), 2, the small-diameter of the short range iron sight makes it pretty useless in low light, and 3, the 9mm cartidge just doesn't have enough power...mine is pretty much relegated to bunny blasting and groundhog getting; if someone came in the house uninvited they'd encounter a 12ga barrel-full or a 7.62HP first.

If i did it again, i'd probably get the .40 or .45 CX4.

I have the .45, and the only thing I don't like is the pretty low capacity (but I knew that when I bought it and got it anyway).

I use my CX-4 9mm Storm(92 model magazines) in three-gun shoots. We never fire at targets over 90 yards away, usually much closer. A box of Winchester 100 round count 9mm runs $19.97 at Wal-Mart. That is 20cents a round! If you don't reload, that beats 223 cost at about 30 cents a round. I get plenty of hits with iron sights. The trigger is pretty heavy(9 pounds), so be warned. I have never had a jam in a match, and don't expect to have one.

CAV637 makes a good point. The only time I have ever had any feed issues with my Storm was when I tried using a 3rd party extended magazine to boost capacity. I tried several things to make the mags feed better to no avail. Stick with the Beretta mags and it feeds great.
The trigger isn't great, but I still love it.

let me be the first to suggest you get a .22 semi-auto before the 9mm..
You said "first" rifle so get experience first with a fun-to-shoot marlin model 60 OR ruger 10/22..
you will want a .22 anyway for cheap fun

CX4 Experience

I've run about 500 rounds through my new 9 mm CX4, on which I added a laser, light, and red dot sight. This is one cool weapon. Not only does it look great, it performs flawlessly and is accurate out to at least 25 yards, the farthest distance I've shot. I park it by my bed each night. I recommend it to anyone looking for a HD carbine. I rate it a 9 on a scale of 10 only because Kel-Tec Sub 2000 costs about half as much and does about the same thing.
