In my humble opinion the best combat 9mm should be durable and reliable, and you should be able to fire it accurately under stress. I would choose one of these (in no particular order):
1. Glock 17/19
2. CZ-75B/85B/SP-01
3. XD-9

And I also think that USP9 and P226 would be great options as well. What do you say guys?

I've been accused of being overly conservative about such matters, but I think I'd want a properly set up Browning/FN/Inglis/whatever P-35. By "properly set up" I mean decent sights, a larger thumb safety, and the magazine disconnect removed.

You have a little bit of an apples and oranges comparison (poly verses steel frames)

I'll vote Glock. I've seen many stories of 20 year old Gen 1 guns with 100k+ rounds and only spring changes.

CZ is steel and reliable, one could argue CZ.

XD9 isn't old enough.

Hate to say it, but Glock 17/19. Works right out of the box and in terms of durability hard to touch. There's 300,000+ round guns that are still working.

CZ 75, and I love my USP 40, I can't imagine the USP 9 is anything but equal or better.

All those are good choices. Ive heard lots of good about Glocks, even tho I dont have any experience with them other than handling them in a store.
I own an XD9 thats been good to me.

CZs have a good reputation of reliability and accuracy. But for everyday carry, I think the all metal guns are little too heavy. I do hope to pick up a CZ 75 SP-01 someday soon though.

Dont forget the newer S&W M&P9. They seem to be getting more and more popular, and have some good reviews from the ppl that have fired them.

Where's the "combat" on the resume for the Glock and CZ again?

Cop weapons and controlled testing conditions beauty queens don't make the cut.

"Best Combat 9mm" would have to be the Browning Hi-Power (or in it's mlitary form, the P-35).

It has stayed the course in many combat zones. The Brits and Aussies use it to this very day.

Not bad for a 75 odd year old design, imho.

C... Z... 7... 5!!!

CZ-75 or a full size variant thereof.

I like my Glock, USP, and Hi-Power too, but for me it's the CZ!

1. CZ-75 (preferably SP-01 with extended mag, etc)
2. Glock 17

I'd rather have a steel frame - the CZ feels like you could use it as a hammer. I don't really see much wrong with Beretta 92's either when I have fired them but I have not owned one.

There are two combat proven 9mms.

Everything else is just smoke and mirrors!!!

The Beretta M9 is nothing more than a 3rd generation P38.
The second being the P5. ;)

Boats,
The CZ and Glock are in service in many different countries. My pick would be the Glock 19. I've used Sigs, 1911s, Beretta, and Glocks in country; The Beretta had issues (abused, Checkmate), the 1911 (magazines, abused), Sig (abused but no issues at all), Glock 19s were new and were perfect for the environment.

I (the thread starter) didn't mention Beretta 92FS for a few reasons even though it is one of my favourite pistols, very, very reliable, durable, pretty and so on. I've had it and used it and even I have tested it against my old Glock 17. Now my Inox 92FS belongs to my father. Those reasons are:
1. It is too big for a 9mm pistol
2. The safety is on the slide
3. Even though it has a safety you cannot carry it cocked and locked.
4. Its front sight is part of its slide, so if you damage it you have to get a new slide.
5. I am not able to shoot it well ander stress.
6. It is not so reliable in sand conditions.

I'm not sure if Israeli use counts as "combat use", but they were quite fond of the CZ 75 for a number of years weren't they?

Well in terms of how many countries have chosen it as their military sidearm and length of history, it's probably the Browning High Power / GP35.

There is something to be said for the Glock though, they probably represent the future due to their sheer reliability. I don't really care for the Beretta 92FS.
