The big N Frames

Does anybody carry a big N frame for their daily carry?
I've carried my model 29-2 and my model 624 occasionally. Both 4in bbls. I run into the problem that it's hard to not have them print. Carrying them isn't a huge ordeal for me. You definitely can feel the weight after full day though.
S&W Model 28-2, Model 57, and Model 58.

I once carried a 4" M29 and two speedloaders for a month just to see what it was like.
It was like strapping half a steel grapefruit to my side. The speedloaders were as bulky as the gun.
At 5' 9" and 145 lbs, the thing stuck out a mile. It was obvious as hell, but no one noticed it. Even my wife, who was use to me carrying a flat G19 didn't notice.
"Printing" isn't a problem. I've said many times, unless you're a super-model or on fire, no one will give you a 2nd look.
Hell, they won't give you a 1st look. People are far too wrapped up in their own lives and usually have their noses stuck into their phones to pay attention to lumps under your clothes.
I wouldn't do it again, but since then I've carried a 3" 686+ with no issues.

What is a Dracol? I ask because I saw a Russian movie with an odd revolver that I could not identify.
Romanian made AK pistol of their Cugir AIMR. Century Arms was importing Romanian made AKs forever and Cugir (Romanian Arms Factory) made a 12" barreled carbine called the AIMR. To make it legal for import into the US, Cugir simply made the rear trunnion flat with no ability to install the East German pattern folding stock.

Won't pass for a revolver. In this Russian movie (which is placed in modern times.) I saw an odd rather old fashioned looking revolver.

I’m a big fan of S&W N-frames and have posted elsewhere on this august forum about carrying Model 27s, especially either a 5-inch 27-2 or a 3-1/2-inch “pre-27.”

My favorite mode of carry for either of these is the Summer Classic IWB from Barranti Leather.
The holster rides nice and high and I adjust the loop for a forward cant. I opted for a belt-loop cutout slot to help me be able to mount the holster in-concert with the belt-loop on my pants.

No one is more surprised than I am at how well this sort of thing works for me. A good belt is a must (mine are from A&G Gunleather). Last year I kept a log for a month of carrying the 5-inch gun. Some days it was on me for 5 or 6 hours, other days 12 to 17 hours at a pop. It’s not that I didn’t notice the gun or that it didn’t feel “good” to take it off at the end of the day. During the day, though - no issues for me. No binding, pinching, etc. In and out of cars, walking, sitting, working, whatever. Heck, even some dancing (or a reasonable facsimile thereof) haha! Carried the gun along with spare ammo via both speed-strip carriers from Milt Sparks and 2x2x2 pouches from Barranti and a S&W 642 in a pocket holster. Typical cover garment was an untucked shirt, light vest or jacket, or a sportcoat.

I won’t recommend it for everyone, nor will I dispute that there are “easier” guns to carry. For me, however, it all works.

For what it’s worth, I also field an OWB holster for the shorter-tubed gun with another on-order from Barranti, and I’m looking at additional options for same for the 5-inch gun.

Also, summer weather was mentioned - that’s a booger-bear for me, too, as I don’t want to sweat all over a blued gun. Having a look at options there including a 627 Pro Series and even (gasp!) a Glock 19 or 26 haha…

A few pics to offset all my blather above…

I'm not nor ever have been an LEO, but several friends are and might have a different opinion on 'printing' as may some of the bad guys. YMMv of course. Rod

Once or twice I’ve carried an N framed 329PD in town. A gun I bought exclusively for back country carry when fly fishing in grizzly country of Wyoming mountains. Size isn’t really an issue in the N frames for me. I’m what Roy D. Mercer would call extra husky. It’s primarily the weight. The scandium framed titanium cylinder 329PD negates that issue of course.

If pressed I’d have no problems carrying one on a daily basis with .44 Special hand loads. In fact, a friend does just that.

I sometimes carry this M29, it was a .44special, but the previous owner had it re-chambered for .44mag. In a high riding OWB holster that pulls it close to the body it conceals just fine in spring, fall or winter time. I don't find it uncomfortable. Depends on your body type. I like full wad-cutters in it for self defense, but having some fear of the prosecution convincing the jury that reloads are "intended to kill people", or the sure sign of a deranged gun nut "wanting to kill someone" I usually load it with commercial 200 grain .44mag "cowboy" loads. I have no idea what the velocity on those are, probably pretty much the same as .44 Special. However, this thing looks very intimidating if it's pointing at you. I know that looks don't kill, but it could make the difference between someone following commands, or taking their chances. Or not.
