If they can't get the guns, get the ammo.:fire: This is from their website blog :

These people disgust me and piss me off.:fire: Where in the Constitution does it say that I can't own an "assault rifle"? I'll buy and store as much ammo as I damn well please in my own home! Paul Helmke can kiss my a**!

Rant off.:D

Should The Public Be Able To Get The Types Of Guns We Use In Iraq?
I asked this question last week of the candidates for President now campaigning in Iowa, and I think that for most of the American people [pdf] the answer is clearly “no.”

In the last ten days, two states in the heart of the country have sustained mass shootings by people armed with military-style assault rifles – two attacks with assault weapons in less than a week. One shooter attacked a mall full of employees and Christmas shoppers in Omaha. The other attacked a church in Colorado.

Together, they left twelve people dead.

Yet today assault weapons remain perfectly legal to buy in gun stores and gun shows across the country, in unlimited quantities. Perhaps even more shocking, the type of bullet many assault weapons fire (7.62mm full metal jacket) can penetrate four categories of police body armor [pdf]. There is no legitimate reason the public should have this kind of access to military-style assault weapons.

It’s also frustrating that when a UPS employee raised concerns on September 13 about the “multiple boxes” of ammunition the Colorado shooter had delivered to his postal box, police officers said there was nothing illegal. No limits on the number of guns; no limits on ammunition; very minimal limits on the type of guns – no wonder we have problems.

Since the terrible shootings last week, leading newspapers are joining the call. Here is a sample of what they’re saying.

The New York Times: “Until recently, the nation did have a law designed to protect the public from assault rifles and other high-tech infantry weapons. In 1994, enough politicians felt the public’s fear to respond with a 10-year ban on assault-weapons that was not perfect but dented the free-marketeering of Rambo mayhem. Most Americans rejected the gun lobby’s absurd claim that assault rifles are “sporting” weapons. But when it came up for renewal in 2004, President Bush and Congress caved to the gun lobby and allowed the law to lapse.”

The Philadelphia Inquirer: “The troubled 19-year-old in Omaha used his stepfather’s AK-47-type assault weapon to unleash 30 rounds of gunfire on innocent victims, and then killed himself. Who needs a gun like that around the house?”

The Washington Post: “The AK-47 assault rifle that an Omaha teenager pilfered from his stepfather was among the guns outlawed under the ban on assault weapons that Congress and President Bush unwisely allowed to lapse. Why that kind of gun should be so easily available to someone as troubled as that 19-year-old is unfathomable. Eight people shopping or working at a mall died as a result.”

To protect ourselves and our police [pdf], these weapons of war should be kept out of the hands of civilians.

If they were idiots, we'd have nothing to worry about. They employ intelligent, driven, well organized people who have very very misguided beliefs about the Second Amendment and firearms in general.

First we need to call BS on this because UPS doesn't deliver to PO boxes.

I think that would be easily countered with an oleg style image. Does 3 full boxes of ammunition sound like a lot? Show 3 boxes stacked next to a coke can. Non shooters don't really have any idea how fast a shooter can go through a whole case of ammunition.

Ahh, the classic words "there is no legitimate reason..."

If the road to hell is paved with good intentions, that phrase must be on the billboards along the way.

Awesome! I can't think of a single thing that would help the gun rights movement more than an attempt to ban all centerfire rifle ammo again. If they can succeed in getting Kennedy, Schumer, or Feinstein to push that through the Senate, methinks we'd see antis lose big time in '08 like they did in '94. :neener:

You're damn right they should be kept out of the hands of civilians. It's certainly hard to seize power and strip civil liberties when the people you're trying to oppress have more guns than you. Damn!

There sure as hell is...it's called "because I want one." If it can work for things NOT recognized (or "protected") in the constitution, why doesn't it apply for guns? If a far left tree hugging hollywood type can drive in a H2 Limo and fly on their private jet (even though they're a tree huger...I know, don't make sense...guess they don't make toyota prius limos :D )...well you get my point. In this country we don't need to have a reason to buy one other than "I want one" it's that simple.

oh yeah, I forgot to talk about the ammo issue. If they think 3 boxes of ammo is something special, I go through at least two boxes PER GUN at the range! :)

Well devised ploy. They are not stupid, they marely do not want people armed, and this is an effective argument to attempt to disarm owners of a large portion of existing firearms.

Notice it is not just the "assault weapon" they speak that they wish to see us all safe from , but the type of evil ammunition that they use. Under this tactic they wish to outlaw FMJ rifle rounds for our protection because of the threat they pose to police and body armor. This would outlaw deer rifle's (sniper rifles) and battle type (assault rifles) rifle's ammunition.
Yet in other arguments they want to insure we are all safe and protected from evil expanding ammunition, meant to kill and do far more damage. You know the type outlawed in the hague convention because it is so cruel, and so evil that even soldiers in war should not have it.

So they have "logical" arguments for banning virtualy all rifle ammunition.

They also have "logical" arguments for why nobody should have concealable handguns which are the prefered weapons of criminals and involved in most crimes. (why does an honest person need a weapon that can be hidden, when they could protect thier home with one that cannot be )
Why nobody needs "cop killer bullets", and why nobody needs deadly expanding ammo designed to create more carnage and destruction. So there is no reason to have any type of handgun ammo either. It either penetrates too well, or causes extra unnecessary destruction by expanding.

If you were to enact laws based on all of thier "logical" arguments, every gun would be outlawed in the hands of the public. All ammunition would also be outlawed fitting into on of thier "unnecessary" catagories. They have "logical" points of view to cover every angle. Too powerful, too much penetration to keep us safe ammo, extra deadly designed to kill expanding ammo, etc.

It is all propaganda that appeals to the type of people who desire to hear firearms are to blame. There is an angle for everyone that has a reason or a desire to hate firearms to latch onto and support. Those are the people this propaganda is targeted and marketed to.

The sad thing is every now and then some politician or group of people buys into one of thier arguments, and they move a step closer in the direction of thier actual goal, disarmament of civilians.

XD 40, ya beat me too it.

Helmke couldn't even get past the headline without lying, this time. And, there is a new group of people lining up to be victims on the blog, today. It ain't "all Kelli", this time.

Guys, PLEASE, come and help out your friends. I know it's difficult, but try to be as civil as you can, or Huffpo will delete you.

Or, you can go to the Brady Blog, and click on the Huffpo link after Helmke's post.

One more thing. I know a lot of you think it's a waste of time to respond to Helmke's BS. However, these last two shootings seem to have generated some interest on the part of the anti-rights crowd. It's got 'em all stirred up. Of course, their arguments are nonsensical. One guy thinks guns should be banned because "you could drop it on the floor and it might go off". Not all of them are quite that stupid.

Helmke, of course, is trying to exploit these crimes, as he always does. He also hasn't had a thing to say about the fact that the Colorado miscreant, was stopped by an armed citizen with a handgun, because he wants to ban those too.

Who knows? The Supremes might be reading this stuff too, so let's not ignore this one.

Thanks,
Mike

Ok first of all I am getting real sick of hearing about the kid with the AK-47, first things first it wasn't an AK 47 them are over in Iraq and shoot full auto the guns we have here are semi auto, varients of the ak-47. What these idiont antis fail to realize is that just because it looks like an AK doesn't make it one. THey also fail to realize that these guns are no different that a mag fed semi auto hunting rifle.

What I think we need to do is start calling them what they are and correcting people when they do call them AK's or M-16's we should stop them and say "no this is a WASR-10 it looks like an AK but isn't full auto like the ones iraqis use"

Here they go again, (whiny voice on) we can't be responsible for our own actions, it the guns fault...sniffle, sniffle (whiny voice off).

What these idiot antis fail to realize is that just because it looks like an AK doesn't make it one.

They don't fail at all, they intentionally omit key facts because they undermine their position. Facts are boring, sensationalization hits the fear center, and most people simply do not know. They're counting on that.

The leftist extremists won't be satisfied until only the police, the military, their own private bodyguards, and the criminals are armed.

It worked for Lenin. It worked for Stalin. It worked for Hitler. It worked for Mussolini. It worked for Mao. It worked for Pol Pot. It worked for Idi Amin.

Think of it as a trend, eh?

Thanks, Black Adder. It probably won't take that long, but it's the weekend. I don't remember having to be approved, but it's been a while. Maybe that's a new thing. What are the Ultralibs so afraid of, I wonder?

"What I think we need to do is start calling them what they are and correcting people when they do call them AK's or M-16's we should stop them and say "no this is a WASR-10 it looks like an AK but isn't full auto like the ones iraqis use"

That's what we tell them, over and over. But now, there's a new bunch to set straight. Helmke knows this too. That's why he periodically recycles the same lies, over and over. The more of us they hear from, the better for all of us.

What is intersting to me, is that you seldom hear from the same people more than once. As soon as most of them see what they're up against, they run and hide under the sofa. Let's keep them under the sofa.

I got a call from the brady bunch last week, not sure why but I did. Told the lady that I thought every red blooded american needed to have a gun and be armed and I was a "card toting member of the NRA" and asked her in a nice way to remove me from their list.
