The British called - They want their guns back!

Alright, I had to stop watching when I saw the guy willfully throwing his Blackhawk on top of a bunch of other perfect firearms to be ruined. :barf:

They're right though, it's their own fault. I hope they can change that. I think Americans (especially gun owners) have too much fight in them to just sit there and let it happen the way the Britts did.

Quite literally, the government will only pull my firearms out of my cold dead hands.

God help them. The price to get rights back that have been givn to the government has historically always been blood. Hopefully they are able to get them back through the same politics that were used against them. I doubt it, but I wish them luck.

The kick in the pants is it seems like there's still an awful lot of gun crime, including "non-guns" being made funtional and included the registered sporting fine side by side shotguns (an older lady shot her husband in his sleep on the isle of wight about a week ago). I thought I heard 5 fatal stabbings a week on avg across the (little) country and the jackasses that set a man sleeping on the train a few weeks back.

Guh-once they go 'way, they rarely come back. But crimminal behaviour? That's the constant in the equation.

I know it's probably of no significance to most THR members, but Tony Martin shot the burglars as they were fleeing, killing one with a shot in the back. He then fled the scene and attempted to hide his firearm. Moreover, he was arguably, and perhaps not wrongly so, on a mission, since he had been burglarized several times before. In other words, one might argue that this was not a defensive shooting.

Martin, moreover, was released from prison in 2003 after serving three years.

I'm not defending what happened to Martin, nor Britain's gun laws, but this reporting leaves much to be desired. This case seems to be much more complex than first meets the eye.

The sad truth, I applaud these men and women and hope they accomplish their objective. The fact that they are unarmed really compounds the decision, much of their power in that act has been stripped.

Good luck to all of you fighting for your right back accross the pond, may you prevail.

"... when was this video made?"

No idea, but it was Posted on YouTube June 04, 2008 (which of-course means nothing)

I've often wondered about the Brits' gun situation. Did they ever have widespread private gun ownership like we have here? When they did ban guns, did they go door to door with a list and collect them? Did anyone refuse or at least try to as I would think would happen here?

I will never 'turn them in.'
Dont worry, you wont have to. they are going for the ammunition. that way we will have nice wooden or plastic stocked peices of pipe to defend our selves with. and when we do, our media will still call it a gun crime, and we will be charged with using a gun making it a felony!

:barf:

Better to be judged by 12 than be carried by 6.... Poor man has had his life ruined for PROTECTING HIS OWN LIFE. Tony Blair and the rest of Britain's gun stealing government should all meet this guy and view the reality of pissing away an innocent man's life.

Now this poor guy has to live out his entire life knowing that he was punished for doing the right thing AND the fact that he had to kill a man to do so.

1) He was released from jail in 2003.
2) His life was not, really, in danger. He may still have been in the right, but he shot the two men as they were fleeing. The sixteen-year old was shot and killed in the back.

That film of the demonstration (some years after the ban) was of the Countryside March, which was about fox-hunting, not gun ownership at all - although some gunowning organisations took part. The late Richard Malbon (interviewed in the bush hat right at the end) was the secretary of SAGBI, a pro-gun pressure group.

Ok since I'm a Brit (Green Card US, and Naturalizing) I'll give my 2 cents.
1181 Assize of Arms (an early right to keep and bear arms)
1707 right to keep and bear arms, very similar to the US 2nd amendment
1903 Pistols act requiring a gun license before they could buy a pistol
1920 Firearms act gun registration required on fears of large numbers of firearms (rifled, not smoothbore) returning post WWI
1937 Firearms act banning fully auto firearms based on the 1934 US National Firearms act, and shotguns with barrels shorter than 20"
1968 Firearms act required a certificate to own a shotgun

Then the biggies
1988 Firearms amendment act prohibited pump action, and Semi-Auto center fire rifles, registration and secure storage of Shotguns required by law.
1997 Firearms amendment act 2 complete ban of pistols except black powder muzzle loaders, and pistols of historical interest.

The number of crimes in which a handgun was used in England and Wales has risen from 299 in 1995 to 1,024 in 2007. Offenses committed with all types of firearms, including air guns, have also increased. 8% of all British Homicides 2007/8 are firearm related according to the BCS which is strongly hedged to Public relations data, rather than true statistical data.

RC (police) figures place 5.6 Million crimes, of which 73% were theft related (Leaving 27% as violent crime) UK Population 60,943,912 (Google) so 9% of the UK population were victims of crime and 2.5% were victims of violent crime (1.5M people).

And just to top it all this is the model that the gun control lobby thinks proves gun control works.

1181 Assize of Arms (an early right to keep and bear arms)

Actually, it was a duty to keep and bear arms. The duty was related to status in society... or class. The higher up the social ladder you were, the greater the duty.

1707 right to keep and bear arms, very similar to the US 2nd amendment

I think you mean 1689 and the English Bill of Rights which was the grandfather of the 2nd Amend.

1920 Firearms act gun registration required on fears of large numbers of firearms (rifled, not smoothbore) returning post WWI

The happenings in Russia scared the bejabbers out of the ruling class...
