I like mine! Most of my Lady friends prefer the auto-loaders until I have them help me clean 'em! The levergun stays SOOOO clean, in comparison.
I just wish the magazine latch would stay latched after the last round was chambered! I've thought of trying to see if a Henry magazine tube would work on the Winchester. Theirs is a much better design, IMHO.
My former GF had a Marlin lever 22. They're great guns for ANYBODY.
22 rifles are good for shooters of every skill level. I shoot a lot of .303 in my Lee Enfields, but for plain fun and practise of the basics, my #2 MkIV* .22 trainer is tops. No matter how much you shoot "real" guns, going back to basics with a humble 22 is very profitable.
I think the 22 leverguns are great guns for everybody. And when we go shooting my wife always reaches for the Win 94..............30-30. She leaves the 9422 for me. Go figure .
Yeah, a Winchester 9422 is a great gun for anyone.
I would also consider Taurus's remake of the Winchester Model 62. It's a pump action 22 that is an absolute hoot to shoot. Unless you (or she) specifically wants a lever action rifle, take her to the gunshop and let her try out pump action vs lever action.
See, it's a "lever" action. So if madkiwi balks at all, you use some "leverage" on him. (I'm sure you know what I mean....if not send PM)
But.....the gunsmith work to add the aperture and globe is very reasonable. As I recall, it was 20 bucks and HE had to do all the measuring to get the proper front sight height.
Just take a look at the procedure for ordering in a Brownell catalog and I think that you too will decide it is worth it to determine the correct globe base height.
Course, you CAN measure, twist, stick, gaze, and curse until you get CLOSE and then call Brownell for the correct one, but taking it to the smith will get the last laugh on the old man.
Gotta realize, it's all those days upside down on the bottom of the earth that affects his brain.
