I picked up this little 3" J frame yesterday and as I suspected, finding a tactical holster for it is going to be a challenge.

Short of having one custom made does anyone know where I could find a quality IWB or OWB (pancake, etc) holster for this little guy?

My first thought is a Hume JIT or a Yaqui but I'd rather go for full enclosure.

Not looking for a field holster or cheap nylon/moleskin I've got access to those easily enough.

Thanks!

What is a "tactical holster" for a 3" J frame???

One of the best holsters I've seen (and own) for a 3" J frame S&W is made by Simply Rugged. Wear it cross draw or strong side. Can't be beaten.

3" J-Frame

Smith has a great pancake style on their site for 3" j-frame I bought one it appears to be a Desantis with S&W stamped on it

Tactical meaning not a field holster. A tactical holster would have two belt slots as opposed to one, ride higher on the waist, pull in tighter for concealment etc. I could have more properly phrased it as a "concealment" holster.

It's easy to find a traditional field holster for this gun ala the Hunter brand.

Thanks to everyone else for the leads, I'll check them out. I had seen the Desantis but I'm not a fan of the 3 slot style pacakes, they just add too much bulk IMO.

Roy's Leather Goods out of magnolia Arkansas made a great pancake holster for the 3" J-frames. The number stamped on the back of mine is M36 or M38 fits my 3" J-frame fine. If you can find one that what I'd go for.

If you don't want to look too hard Simply Rugged has The Silver Dollar Pancake available for the 3" J-frame.

Cpirtle, Thanks for the explaination. I thought perhaps you meant one of those drop-down-to-the-knees things. I think this one from Simply Rugged will be just the ticket for you. I am 100% pleased with mine.

That's a S&W 36, 3" Heavy Barrel. I can wear the holster strong side or cross draw.

Good luck.

Tucker Gunleather makes an IWB for that gun. I purchased one, and specified 3 inch barrel on the order. I was a bit disapointed when I received it, and the barrel extended about a half inch out the bottom of the holster. Other than that, it is a good quality holster. It is very difficult to reholster the gun in that holster, because the cylinder does not want to slide into the holster. The Bianchi 5BH is supposed to be made for that gun with a 3 inch barrel. The 5BHL is the same model only lined. I have one of those for my S & W k-frame 6 inch, and I am very pleased with it. I plan to get one for my model 36 one day.

I just looked at the web site on 19-3Ben's post above. Those are good looking holsters. I like the look of them better than the Tuckers, and the price is competative. I would opt for the horse hide option. I have a Galco horse hide IWB, and I am very happy with it.

Check out The Slide in my OWB section. I'm making one for a 3" J-frame right now for inventory so no waiting. :D

Thanks again for all of the leads. Been reading about the Simply Rugged's on Paco's site for years and always wanted to try one, may just give it a shot.
