Lots of people will not hard chrome a nitride gun. For example Metaloy one of the best in the business will not touch a nitride gun.

I know people love the latest and greatest wonder finishes like Ion Bond, Nitride etc.... but they do no provide flexibility to change later. I had a custom BHP built by Jim Garthwaite and I wanted it hard chromed, not the latest and greatest, but he suggested blue the gun first and shoot it for a year and if everything is exactly the way you want it then send it to be hard chromed because if we need to make adjustments we will have to strip the gun to make that happen.

I am still a sucker for a nice blue. It looks great. It wears evenly and when it needs to be refinished because you have shot the hell out of the gun you can do it at reasonably low cost. Honest earned wear in solid bluing is awesome IMHO.
