At least, the first thing.....I.....did. Back in the days when you could buy a pistol at 18 and take it to school in your car and go shootin after school.
Wa'al, ah gots me a nice FIRST MODEL WW1 1911. Set me back 35 bucks. But it was all wore on da corners an stuff. WHO WANTS A GUN LIKE THAT?
So......had it reblued. SHINY! Oh boy! Now the corners was roundy instead of just unblued so it was a lot better for quick draw.
Then.....the grips. Anyone know how many HOURS it takes to sand off those goofy DIAMONDS on the grip panels? LOTS! But then, a nice coat of SPRAY VARNISH!!! And the gun was ......almost ......complete.
It only needed ....one....more.....thing.....!!! STIPPLING!
So it got ...stippled! Didn't know how to strip it other than a field strip so hadda leave the grip safety in while ....STIPPLING. Nice center punch an a vise an away I went. Didn't miss the frame TOO many times and whang the stipple into and across the flats of the edge.
But....THEN.....it was PURDY!
So now you know how to fancy up a 1911.
