Well when I was home in PA for the Christmas holiday I stumbled on a Springfield 1898 Krag that wouldn't cost me an arm and a leg so it came home with me. What follows is a short pictorial of it and its condition.

The Good: An 1898 Krag

The bad: The stock has been beat around a bit and modified in a strange way to take a pistol grip.

The ugly: It looks like someone tried to bed it with wood putty. Also on the second picture you can kinda see the end of a metal screw for a front sling mount.

Part 2

The good: This is what the blueing on the gun used to look like.

The bad: This is what it looks like now.

The ugly: That sling point I mentioned earlier? They soldered the threads on to the barrel.

All in all it's still a decent gun. The rifling is still decent, I just need to replace the stock, sights, and refinish it.

Look at it this way, you rescued it!!

I had one long ago that I wish had never gotten away from me. There's really nothing speical about them... they don't shoot that well, aren't that pretty, but they do have a super slick action (mine did anyway) and are plenty accurate enough to take game with.

And in my opinion... they're just cool....

good luck with it!

They are worth saving...
