I want to congratulate you, too.

It is ALWAYS cool to get a grail gun! Everybody's got their own version - but it all means just as much!

Just out of curiosity, what would be the major draw of a gun like this? I'm not dissing the gun, mind you, I wouldn't mind having one myself -- but I'd see it as a good outdoor protection gun for close-in use against bear and other dangerous animals, especially while fishing. Also as a collector's item. But other than that, it's hardly what one would call a “kit gun.“ That said, it is a beauty. But then, I'd also like to have an 8-shot stainless .22LR N-frame with a .22 WMR cylinder...ported, of course, and scoped. A 6 1/2-inch underlug barrel would be ideal.

I had seen a vid on youtube about the gun and just lusted after it. I had seen many over the years all configurations (trail boss, back packer, performance center) but all of them were over the 1000 price mark. In the past few years i could only dream of spending that much on a firearm as responsibility set his head in. it wasnt until i was aware of my friends intention to ask to buy my ruger that i said trade me for the smith .44 and its yours. Also growing up my father was an auxiliary officer who whe called would carry his smith 29-3 in his holster so I guess its sort of an emulation. As for a kit gun, I have no use in .22 calibers, just not a fan .I dont su scribe to the whole its the best to train on when i can download a .38 spl or even a .44 special to mouseloads and let newbies train with, I taught my 10 year old brother in law on my ruger vaquero loads that barely broke 650 fps.

"nothing in Texas can stand up to a 250 gr slug at 950 fps."

Water Buffalo, Rhino, Elephant... These are all found in Texas, and all a bit much for that load. Although I would say the zookeepers are likely to be more of an issue.

That Lew Horton 29-3 3" was a special run in late '84-early '85. The often cited 5,000 units produced is incorrect [even the Standard Catalog of S&W got it wrong] as there were only 200 produced. Mighty scarce and bringing a huge premium these days.

Yea and I stupidly sold my 3 inch Lew Horten 629 years ago!
