I've had a month and a half old order for six barreled receivers from the CMP. They acknowledged the order, then emailed me that they didn't have what I ordered- three H&Rs and three SAs. I changed it to six SAs. I've been watching for them to show up, instead, they called today saying they couldn't fill the order, ever. The girl DID say she had one barreled receiver in H&R, rack grade for 235.00 and one Field Grade Dane. I told her to send them.

Four of us were going to split up the six barreled receivers. Been buying parts to build them out. Good thing Garand parts don't go bad.

Looks like the end of the Garands, unless someone finds a big stash somewhere. Glad to have a couple around the house.

My father satched up 2 rack grades a couple of months ago. They were in dang good shape for rack grade. It is a shame they are all starting to dry up.

I think they do have some carbines though. Might want to get some of those too, before they are gone as well.

Man, sorry to hear that. I was going to get a barreled receiver when I order my carbine later this month.

Wow, I just checked the web site, they have nothing but stripped receivers and drill rifles.
Looks like everyone wants to get them before the ban.

They're only drying up because the CMP is spending all their man power prepping Carbines. They have 50,000 Garands in their warehouse, even though Orest stated that 9 ot of 10 are too far worn to sell.
And there is another 50,000 setting on a dock waiting on customs clearance to send them on to the US Army so they can release them to the CMP. Orest stated it will be October when more are released.
BTW, this summer look for "CMP restored" Garands with new barrels and stocks and a repark job. They aren't selling parts for a reason!
I wish they would offer a "Garand kit minus barrel" so I could refinish it myself and send it off for a barrel job.

This is the Greek racker delivered just last week. I guess it's the bottom of the barrel for the time being. Mechanically OK, and the muzzle still leaves about 3/16" in an inverted bullet test.

My biggest gripe is that the rear handguard, aside from being a replacement, has a 1" crack on the rear. Also the stock doesn't fit tightly with the rest of the rifle. I hope there is a way to fix that.

They aren't going to have many of those built-up M1's. If you plan on buying one, you'd better get your paperwork in order and be ready to send it overnight.

I got my SA barreled receiver (which started as a woodless Dane order) laste week.

Yea, and I'm anxious to see the price these are going to be fetching!

Don't forget there is still a large shipment of Korean M1s inbound as well.

Everything I have read on the Koreans was that the Koreans BOUGHT the rifles from the US, and cannot be repatriated back into the US by an importer, and that Orest went to Korea and personally looked at them and they were way too far gone in condition to even think about trying to resell them.

Not true. Out of 70,000 M1s some of which were still in the cans after rebuild they are not trashed.

However the Phillippine M1s WERE trash, the Paraguans weren't much better.

Hope this is right!

I sure hope you guys are right. I've come to regard CMP Garands as kind of a...constitutional right!

Can't imagine going to the National Matches and not having Garands at the North Store. Let's hope there are a few hundred thousand still in the pipeline.

I'm not going to cancel my Numrich parts order. Got paperwork ready to go on a Carbine as well.

I read somewhere. Springfield Armory was selling M1's. Old barrels and receivers.
Never used. Found in warehouse.
But, with new Amer. walnut.
And you could get .308.
My local dealer priced one at $1300.00. New, never shot.
But, steel "made in the old days".
Go to their web site.

zippy,

Nice dream, but Not true.

The M1's SA Inc. is selling are made of a new (cast) commercial receiver, commercial barrel, commercial wood, and the rest of the parts are old, used, and re-finished parts. Many of these are USGI, but some are Italian.... marked BMB and PB. These parts came off of Danish used M1's that were imported back to Canada, stripped off the receivers (which I guess are still in Canada) then the parts sent South to the US and bought up by SA Inc. some years back.

Best,
Swampy

Garands forever

I heard they got a shipment of garands that were, unfortunately, in very poor condition. In fact so poor they couldn't be sold as-is and that they are going to be building complete rifles out of the parts.

They said it would be about 180 for them just to inventory them and stuff.

Dont take my word for fact, although I heard it from one of the head guys on the CMP forum.

SA's new-manufacture M1 Garands are not what you think they are.

The receivers are cast by Lithgow in Australia. They've not received very good reviews, and one would be better off finding a real mil-spec USGI M1 Garand receiver and rebuilding it into a complete gun. New barrels are made by such folks as Citadel, Douglas, and Krieger.

Man am I glad I picked up another one last fall. Hell, I might consider selling the service grade I got a couple years ago if the prices make it tempting enough. :) That might justify sending another one in to get refurbished.

It's Wenigs. I picked the buttstock up here in the for sale section and had to email a picture of it to Wenig to get handguards to match. It took about 4 hours of fitting to get everything to fit.

I just received the field grade Springfield I ordered in early Dec. It is not as nice as the Greek import I have but still a good rifle.
