The Nevada Legislature convenes February 7th, 2005.

In order to get a head start on introducing bills, the legislators start introducing "Bill Draft Requests" starting in the early summer.

So far there are four BDR's that we might want to keep an eye on:

--35 Requested 11/03/2003
Requested by Legislator
Prohibits weapons designed to elude security checkpoints.

--301 Requested 8/10/2004
Requested by Assemblyman Perkins
Clarifies the provisions governing carrying a concealed weapon.

--315 Requested 8/19/2004
Requested by Senator McGinness
Revises provisions governing the possession of certain firearms.

--317 Requested 8/19/2004
Requested by Assemblywoman Pierce
Makes changes to provisions governing permits to carry concealed firearm.

There's no description of the BDR other that what you see here.

I've sent a e-mail requesting to the three legislators that were bold enough to attach their name to the BDR.

I guess it's time to fire up my Nevada CCW Info site.

Sorry to hijack this thread , but I received some gun related Nevada news from a local FFL holder. Here is the email.

GUN OWNERS ALERT!!

The state of Nevada is out once again to rip off gun owners! We
received
a letter on Aug 25 from George Togliatti, director of the state
department of Public Safety, that the state was RAISING the brady tax
to
$25, effective Oct 1, 2004. He states it is due to increasing costs and
the 'difficult times' the state is having with its budgets. The
headline
on the Las Vegas Sun newspaper the same day reads that the state had
received $141 MILLION MORE than expected in tax revenues for the year,
leaving a SURPLUS of some $234 MILLION dollars! Funny, when they
imposed
the tax back a number of years ago, we were told that they would only
charge $15 until the computers were paid for and then it would be
LOWERED to closer to the ACTUAL cost! Another LIE by the politicians!
Write to him at:
George Togliatti
Director, Dept of Public Safety
555 Wright Way
Carson City, NV 89711-0900
and let him know what you think about his 66% TAX INCREASE for gun
owners!! YOU will be paying this tax increase EACH AND EVERY time you
buy a gun (unless you have a valid Nevada concealed permit.) How much
can it cost to type your name in the computer and hit 'enter' to see if
you are a bad guy????

I've received the following replies from the legislators:

From Senator McGinness concerning BDR #315:

I was asked to introduce this measure to cover a "collectible" short-barrelled .22 rifle that a constituent in Fallon bought in Boys' Life Magazine when he was a kid. According to Nevada Revised Statutes, it is now illegal. We are going to reference the ATF's list of curios and collectible because it is listed in there and we wouldn't have to try to re-invent the wheel. The bill will have nothing to do with concealed weapons."

and from Assemblyman Richard Perkins concerning BDR #301:

This is to clarify that a weapon in a car isn't a concealed weapon unless it is on the person. There is an Attorney General's opinion in this regard, but the law is vague.
