Actually, for a thrust and downward slash attack, it's perfect.

As a non-locking blade bayonet, you don't want it to be able to close over your barrel. If you check the manual that comes with it, this is explained clearly.

Also, the downward slash isn't possible with the mounted weapon light, so you are really left with the upward slash.
