Hey everyone! I've had a Ruger GP100 with a 6" barrel and full lug for about two years now, and I have been completely happy with it. In fact, I love the gun except for one thing... that 6" full lug barrel really was too heavy and bulky for my purposes. While it makes a good range gun, I realized I was in the market for a stainless steel .357 revolver that was easier to pack. I was already familiar with and frankly in love with my GP100, so after a good deal of research, I realized I wanted to own the same gun but with a 4" half-lug barrel and fixed sights. This, to me, was the perfect Ruger.

Now I've been wanting this gun for at least a year now, but this particular model (KGPF-340) was not made in particularly large numbers, and those who had them tended to hang on to them or so it seemed. After months of waiting with baited breath, one night a couple weeks ago I spotted this model GP100 on Gun Broker and bought it within a matter of seconds!

Boy, I'm sure glad that I did:

Please forgive the rough picture, but as you can see the gun is in great shape! In fact, it was NIB and was part of a late production model KGPF-340 made in 2012. The gun originally came with a set of the standard Hogue monogrips as most GP100s do nowadays, but last week a member on another forum graciously gave me these old style Ruger OEM compact grips free of charge after I put out a WTB thread on them.

So here I am, my new Ruger is all cleaned up and lubed with frog lube. I plan to spend the rest of the evening working the trigger (with snap caps of course!) and wiping the drool off this gorgeous piece of stainless steel goodness!

Thanks for reading guys! :)

Sorry, Cooldill. Rugers can never hope to be perfect. Only Glocs are perfect. I guess that why they keep coming out with new Generations.

Cooldill

Nice find! Reminds me a lot of the old Service Six. Let us know how it does at the range.

Happiness is a .357 Ruger.
My only problem is deciding which one I wanna tote for the day:D

Great find. I picked up a 4in in October, and dropped a deer with it in November. It's an excellent revolver. With my sjsp handloads I can shoot 2in groups at 25 yds.I changed the front sight to the red insert model and bought the Gp100 holster that Ruger sells on their website , It's a good shooter with 38's and 38 +p also . But you know that already.

They really should offer that version regularly. It fits the description of what has been called the Canadian GP100. I would grab one. I envy you. Enjoy that beauty.

My 5 inch full lug is, for me, the best shooting 357. I carry rarely at that length but have a nice set of Simply Rugged Holsters for it, one crossdraw and one 3-slot either-or; one brown, one black..

Nice. Congrats. Congrats on getting a set of the Lett Grips too. Nice find.
Did you decide on a holster yet?

Thanks! I have a Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake coming for this gun. I plan to attempt CCW with this piece but it may not work out, but the Sourdough can be worn IWB or OWB so it will work out for just a round the house holster to!

I have to agree with the OP, the 4" half lug, fixed sights is my favorite Ruger .357. More so than my 3" Wiley Clapp .357. Now, if I could only find one...

Cool wheelie. Funny how those grips are the most sought after now. I remember when they first came out people were FREAKING OUT about what a travesty they were. LOL

UPDATE:

Shot the gun at the range, it's amazing! And SUPER accurate and hit right at POA with the 158 grain FMJ .38 special loads I was firing. I also ran some Double Tap .357 magnum 125 grain SJHP's throught the gun, VERY hot load but the KGPF-340 took them well!

I LOVE this gun and can't wait to shoot it some more... and some more... and... well you get the picture! :D

I've had GP100 4" full lug for many years. My wife shot it recently, actually for the second or third time, and decided she liked it enough to buy one. She bought a twin of the one you just bought.

Its action is not quite as smooth as mine yet (Wolff springs and stoning helped) but it's getting there. I own several Smiths with the latest being a 629 dedicated to .44 Special basically; the Rugers get shot more.

Revised...I was thinking of the Security Six grips. My GP has those grips with inserts, which work well on the GP but not so much on the SP101. They did start a grip insert art craze though.

I too have the 6" GP100 with the insert grips (changed inserts to stag), great gun. I don't own a 4" but have always loved the look of the 4" half lug. But, to me the perfect size Ruger 357 for carry is the Security Six. I probably should say was since its long been discontinued. Little smaller than the GP and slightly larger than the SP101.

Yeah LOL!

I think I will just call it my ".357" from now on. Really though "three-fifty seven" has to be one of the coolest caliber names IMHO. :D

Indeed it's beautiful.
Quite close to the 686+ Mountain Gun.
Wish it had adjustable sights, though,
