A Headsup....

Shot prices have climbed nationally. The causes given range from the increased gas and diesel fuel prices to a smelter in Missouri closing to it being a war material for our fight against Jihadistan. IMO, all of the above have a part in this. So may greed.

PGC orders shot 10 tons at a time. To keep up with the increase, they switched from carrying West Coast premium shot at $14.95 a 25 lb bag to Starshot at that price. This is a cheaper, softer shot made in Peru. I asked the proper person at PGC, and he stated that to keep selling West Coast, they would have had to raise the price to $17.95. That's a 20% hike.

I expect prices on loaded ammo to go up also. You may want to stock up now, if there's any money left after filling up your gas tank, that is.

And reloaders may find the allure of superlight 7/8 and 1 oz loads increasing.

HTH...

Good advice Dave.

Folks, check garage and estate sales as well. Some real bargains on reloaders, and supplies. Improvise Adapt and Overcome. No big deal to change recipes with a different powder, wads...etc.

Shotshells well kept, even many years old will still break a clay or fell a pheasant...they won't know the payload used was a bargain at $2 a box...

Second time I've heard about this Dave ... seems it's for real.:(

I have about 175 lbs of shot on hand right now and so will just plod on ..... and guess I'll have to bite the bullet (shot? :p ) ... someways down the line.

If I stock much more the damn floor will let go!:D (You have to add this weight to a not inconsiderable amount of ammo (ass'd!).

They say eggs are going up too ..... it's worrying the heck outa the chickens!!:p :D :D

One of the reloaders that works for a reloading company also stated they had got a increase on lead and that ammo and bulk lead would go up becuse of it ..

All the 'precious' metals are going up in price right now. Check out what gold and silver have been doing. Highest since 1987.

Good points. Maybe this is a good time to up the "Serious" ammo on hand. Reserve ammo has a shelf life of decades, will almost certainly go up in price, and may indeed save your life.

Absolute minimum, I'd guesstimate 50 buck, 50 slugs for shotguns, and quintupling that will hurt only your bank account and your back hauling it in. Add a sleeve or two of valupacks for survival hunting, and maybe some goose loads.

Of course, your needs may vary...

Just got our club newsletter announcing that the price of shot is going from our $13.50 to $15.00 for magnum shot. We make about .50 cents a bag on shot for the club so we are not as bad off as some places.
