looked at one today at gander mnt.

blued, 5 shot 3" bbl, hand filling grip that is not over sized....~$400.00 or so...

its tearing me up inside....i really like the compact big bore wheelies, the C.A. ive handled havent reflected solid workmanship to me, but this rossi has.

its a blued magnum version of my Rossi 720.

two draw backs for me, its blued meaning in my area its a rust magnet with the high humidity and i dont baby guns, i use them. next is the built in lock. though it seems less likely to malfunction that the s&w version i just cant go for a self defense gun with a lock that needs a tool to disengage should something happen....

since this is of the taurus design( the lock) has anybody drilled out the lock and filled it back in?

man, the price and features are really calling me.................AAAAARGH!!!

I guess you get what you pay for Jerry. I'm looking at Rossi .357s and for whatever reason they are about the only 357 you can buy right now without dropping $1,200 and up. I wonder if there is a reason they continue to be available?

I've got a Rossi shotgun and a Taurus revolver with that locking system. Kind of neat the same key works on both guns, so I don't see that as a disability.

I got one

I picked up the a Rossi 44 mag like what you are describing back after Thanksgiving at Academy--they were running a special of $259, regularly $379. Couldn't pass it up. Glad I didn't.

Sights are not adjustable, but mine shoots to point of aim using PMC 44 specials and not far from that with mags. Trigger is slowly smoothing out with use. The finish is really nice and polished looking. I don't particulary care for the safety tool thing, but it isn't something I will ever modify. Kind of grows on you.

I have tossed back and forth on the "do I need stainless?" debate for myself over the years. I still have some of my first firearm purchases from over 20+ years ago--all blued steel and all pretty much rust free. Even those passed down from my dad which are way older are all rust free. I don't see the point of stainless sometimes, other than a marketing gimmick from manufacturers....YMMV.

hb35, stainless is a bit more "care free" for lack of a better term. a scratch wont lead to rust like a blued gun that would have bare metal exposed....

holster wear takes the finish off as well, bare metal developes rust unless you constantly oil it......i dont have the time to baby a gun that i would use for carry....

i have blued rifles and shotguns, but they are carried, fired, cleaned, then put away til next time....not in and out of a holster, covered in sweat from concealed carry.....and so on.....

i like the look of polished blued guns, but dont have the patience to care for them as carry guns.
