ok my pawn shop has been getting alot of 3rd generation compacts like the 6946,and the 6906,however both of these are double stacks, which means there fatter, but i love the grip on them, and i cant decide between the 6906 or 6946,how exactley does the 6946's DAO work, and does either carry well?

thanks,.380

380awesome:

All I can say is the 6906 when equipped with the factory S&W +2 mag/grip extender allows you to use the 15rd mags of the 5906 with a factory look..

I have one so equipped, and I'll tell ya, 15+1 vs 12+1 capacity is a nice thing to have.

Personally I prefer the CS9, or CS45, but IMO any 3gS is a fine personal defense choice.

S&W Internal Locks

After reading so much about the internal locks locking up by themselves,I took my 340PD apart and instead of dremel tooling the male portion,I just removed the part it swings into.Has anyone ever done it this way?
I figured if I want to sell it,all I have yo do is put it back.
OOPs ,posted incorrectly.Sorry !

how exactley does the 6946's DAO work

It has a spurless hammer that protrudes very slightly from the slide when cocked/reset, below the slide when uncocked. The hammer starts its throw from approximately a "half cock" position. This reduces the trigger reach and stroke by the same amount. (If you look at pictures of them side by side you will see the difference; the 6906's trigger sits much further forward in DA.) The pull weight remains about the same, around 9 lbs. (estimated); it is not light like a Kahr. The hammer requires the action of the slide (either by racking it or firing a cartridge) to reset. If you have a dud round or other failure to fire, the hammer will fall all the way and the trigger disconnects. With practice you can do good work with this trigger, but I would not necessarily recommend it in preference to a DA/SA.

No lock on 3rd gen S&W autos (or anygen)

DAO or DA/SA the dreaded S&W internal lock does not afflict any of their autos (not featured). Have owned several of the 6906/6904 types and have a soft spot in my heart for them, though I tend toward the 4516 or 457. Really like the 15 shot option as shown above too.
Locklack makes them very desireable!

Cheers, TF
