Range trip today with a forum member. Should have been two, but we
got our wires crossed again. Next time!

The round count on the "GI Springfield" is up to just over 2,000...1500
or so since cleaning. All testing was done with handloads...mostly
230 jacketed hardball, but about 300 more cast-bulletted ammo that is
some KINDA nasty stuff.

The pistol ate everything and never missed a beat. Shot it 'til it was
so hot I couldn't hold the barrel. Oil in the rails about every 150 rounds
or so...no problems. There is still the issue of the dings...almost gone, but still just a light crease that won't hurt anything. I'm just about convinced that it's the ejector, since a different extractor with variable tensioning
doesn't seem to affect it one way or another. It doesn't affect the function,
and the gun kicks the empties high and to the right...well clear of the port.

Detail-strip and cleaning revealed no signs of impending failures or damage.
No peening of the frame or slide despite the 14-pound spring...due for a change.

No PMC has been shot yet. It's here, but I wanted to take the round count
to the point of cleaning and start fresh with a clean slate. 2 cases are
in limbo. I hope to have both fired through the gun by mid-June.

On a side note, duckfoot was a witness to waste laid to the myth of limp-grip induced malfunctions with one of my Colts. The Springer is slated to
be tested for the same in the next range session...probably next Tuesday.
I don't expect that the pistol will have a problem passing the "Wussy Grip Test."

Tuner----------->out!

Let 'er rip, Tuner. Be sure to let us know as soon the the slide breaks in two (wildalaska, are you taking notes?) :neener:

my earlier milspec had 25.000+ rnds thru it with 0 problems ...
only thing i replaced was the recoil spring at about 20k rnds...

I have been reading your test with great interest as I just bought a SS WWII GI Springfield last weekend.

I only have 100 rounds through it so far, but no problems yet.

I can't believe the quality of this gun for the $429 that I paid.

I am thinking of getting another one so I can have a matched pair.

Mr Tuner-

After the Springer is finished gobbling up the PMC, would you/could you put some Wolf thru it? There's a guy on glocktalk doing a torture test with a Springer and Wolf. 1500 rounds so far and 0 failures.

I just ordered a case.

Oh! You mean me! :p

I'll try a couple boxes of the New and Improved Wolf...but the old stuff
is off my list, I'm afraid. I hear that the new stuff is much better.

Cableman,

The only issue that is likely to surface at about the 1,000 round mark is the
extractor. If it does, save yourself a headache, avoid doin' the Geneseco
Shuffle, and just order a Brown Hardcore and be done with it.

I'm also in the process of testing a Cylinder & Slide Spring Steel extractor.
They had a few out of spec issues a while back, and I want to see if things
are back on track for'em. If they are, spring steel is the only way to fly.
Meanwhile Wilson Bulletproof and Brown hardcore are your best bet. I
hear that Nowlin's Tuff Stuff and Caspian's extractors are also very good,
but I don't know from presonal experience.
