The Surefire G2 vs. the Brinkmann Maxfire LX in a Head to Head Review.

Nice review. I believe I picked up my Brinkman at Target on sale for $12.99 (the included holster was worthless).

I tend to carry my Brinkman with me when travelling - mainly, because if I lose it, I'm only out $13.00.

I always have my G2 in my car for emerganices.

It looks like the Cyclops Xenon light that comes in a two pack from Sam's Club is fleshing out to be a better cheapo option than the Maxfire LX.

I have both lights, the Maxfire and the G2.

I have taken an extra Surefire P61 lamp assembly and put in the Brinkman Maxfire after removing the stock reflector and bulb assembly.

The G2 and the Maxfire both now have the same output, there is no difference.

As for the rest of the light, I see little advantage either way.

G2 + P61 = $61.00

Maxfire + P61 = $44.00

Not much difference but not much difference in the lights either. Might as well save a few bucks.

My wife has the Surefire, I got the Brinkmann at WalMart for $20. Both great lights.the output on the Brinkmann drops slowly, not really that noticeable at first, not like my old Maglights. I do like the thing-lots of great bright light when walking the dog at night.

You can get a Streamlight Scorpion for $30, and it has an adjustable focus and puts out 114 lumens. That's almost twice the G2 with the standard bulb. It's even cheaper than the Brinkmann frankenstein with the Surefire bulb.

The Streamlight Scorpion has less output than the Brinkmann Maxfire LX with stock bulb, but slightly more output than the Sure-Fire G2 with stock P60 lamp assembly. They are all very close in overall output though. The Maxfire and Scorpion have slightly more throw than the Sure-Fire G2 if they are all in stock form, the G2 has the best flood.

The 114 lumens rating given by Streamlight for the Scorpion is inflated.

You have many more bulb options with the Maxfire and the G2 than you do with the Streamlight.

Yeah, I was just informed the other day that the rating that Streamlight uses for output is measured at the bulb, and the Surefire numbers are torch lumens, hence the inflation you mentioned. I never knew that before. The Scorpion is a heck of a flashlight for $30 though.
