The target hoarder.

OP:
I had thought that you are alone,

but I keep about 2-3 empty plastic orange juice jugs in my car. Shoot N See targets are generally only used to check a new gun’s sights.

Kept near safety glasses and hearing plus some ammo.

Why kept in the car? We’re a 12-min. drive from the huge private club.
The only decision (what must be done?) is which Rifle to put Into the car.

We had over 60 of them issued out to investigators for years before we were able to get the admin to buy Colt AR-15’s as trunk guns. Maybe if I had an image of this target in my earlier proposal we could have sped the process up a few years.

Stay safe.

I make my own paper targets, although I haven't ever had a chance to use them. I stick a sticker dot in the middle of a printing paper, and draw circles around this.
Also once make full body targets once, lemme find one of those. This was years ago. Made some copies of this but they've never put to proper use.

What did Mike Nesmith ever do to you?!

I'll go you one better. I buy the spool(s) of dot(s), then stick them to paperboard cereal boxes.
I cut the boxes open, and stick the dots on the neutral-colored inside.

Cap'n Crunch on the back, black dot on the front.
What a great idea. I'm going to do that too. Thank you!

and a 100 pk of cheap paper plates that fold under the weight of potato chips.

That used to be my standard for SD practice... MOPP, or Minute of Paper Plate. An article by Ross Seyfried, I believe, turned me on to that notion... paper plates can be bought in standard sizes... 6", 8", 10", etc... and that in and of itself is a target. Made sense to me...

I only stock about 4 or 5 different targets... a scope target, a reduced silhouette target, the 25M M16 zero target, a generic pistol bull target, and the 6" C-N-Shoot pasters. That pretty much covers everything I need...

No, I don't really keep my targets... but I have a few favorites that I've kept. Usually 'first rounds' fired from a favorite gun, but I also have the targets my daughter and I shot at Battlefield Las Vegas some years ago. I've got my Appleseed Rifleman qualification target there. I have my M16 sight in target from Army basic training (1986, not posted.) I have 2 'reminder' targets there, too... the two reduced targets in the center. Those are to remind me that ammo DOES make a difference... both of those targets were shot at the same time, with the same rifle... my M1a. Cheapo crap surplus on the left, new production Prvi on the right, 20 rounds each.

Nothing, haha. I see everyone seems to like my drawn target. It was a fun attempt to make something unique to shoot at. At the time I dind't make the comparison to Mike Nesmith, I felt it resembled more of a bolshevic or a Turkish. I was just going for basic "19th century foreigner enemy" vibes.

Does anyone else have a target fetish, or am I alone in that?

I probably have around 300 paper targets on hand.
I have bears, Buffalo, Squirrels, turkey, groundhog, fox, novelty, crow, bullseye, 5-bull, 6-bull, 50yd Buffalo, 100yd buffalo, poker targets, nightmare targets......
I have a box of 1100 assorted adhesive bullseye targets.
I probably have 300 clay pigeons.
I built and donated probably 10 gongs to my BP club. I have a 22" gong. I'm building a 20" gong..
There is a 24' target board set on steel posts that I use for my annual BP event that we host.
We save our old oil filters from the farm to be used as knock down targets for pistol combat training.

My favorite paper target is the poker target View attachment 1141474
I like the white background so I can see my bullet holes. I like the bull size. I like the space for my info. I like to fold them in half and file them in my filing cabinet in the mancave for future references. Some day I may try to play a hand of poker on them.....but I'm about out. I had better order more, don't you think?

Tell us if you have a favorite target, or an overgrown target stash.:thumbup:
I'm actually exactly the opposite. I'm a cheap makeshift target guy. There's someone at my range who pretty reliably leaves behind those shoot and see sort of targets after one use so I just take the spare dots that they come with paste over his shooting and then reuse the target.

I've also been known to just grab some 4 square or 5 square per inch graph paper that I have lying around for writing purposes and using those as targets after I draw a dot in the center.

Yeah. I hear ya....the old pizza box with a playing card stapled to it works fine IMHO.

For bow practice. Take a deck of 52 cards plus the jokers. Mount them on a large piece of cardboard hay bales behind. And shoot your best poker hand ,a dollar a man for high hand. You can only shoot any of the cards once. All poker rules apply.
Do you have to center punch each one or is it enough to just barely hit it?

Guess what happens when you have access to a plasma cutter, a pantograph, and a unlimited supply of 1/4” mild steel?

At least 5 each of .22 lr targets of traditional Mexican silhouette, all North American big and small game, all African dangerous game, Pleistocene mega fauna, Mesozoic carnivores, 8 different scale bad guy silhouettes, zombie targets, swingers of circles/squares/triangles/octagons/ stars, 5 KYL racks, bullseye targets with descending size center holes and flappers, 3 different grades of eggs…..

My back hurts just thinking about it.

I also enjoy dum-dum suckers, and playing cards on edge

I design and print my own on used office paper. I like to keep records of my handload performance, so I scan my targets into PDF format and shred them afterwards.

I don't keep a lot of targets on hand. Usually a couple packs of paper targets that I'll staple or tape onto a backer. I can fit about 6 targets onto one empty radiator or a/c condenser box, slid over a real estate sign frame. I can usually get a new box or 2 every week...sign frames last a decent amount of time.

I do have a handful of steel targets and have been picking up bowling pins here and there. Bowling pins have a short life span but steel so far hasn't.

Lots of stuff, I use mine with a oxy/act torch most often with steel though. More often that I use my 4x8 CNC plasma table these days but that’s because I can have big projects water jet or laser cut cheaper than I can buy small quantities of sheet and the pantograph is ideal for use with small drops.

Its probably one of the most useful tools I have made. Eliminates the thing I hate most in life, grinding to make something look pretty

Don't keep any targets, though I have a few pics over the years. I found a roll of Kraft paper from Walmart makes great sight in paper (30" wide by 90 feet is $6). Cut with a utility knife at the range and put some dots with a extra wide tip sharpie. Does wonders for those times when someone is sighting in their factory or gunsmith 'boresighted' scopes and we need a bit of extra room to catch those first few shots a foot or more off center. If you want pretty grids and like to save some $ buy cheap wrapping paper after the holidays. Most of them have 1 inch grids printed on the backside & again they come in nice wide sheets you can cut to size at your convenience at the range.

Don't bother with groups on paper too often anymore except if working a new load or changing optics. Most shooting now is steel plates. Our local ranges have a variety already up and I bring along various sized ar500 from 4" to 12".
