The Taurus Judge?

Gimmick. Might make some feel safer in their homes, but I'll use a real shotgun and my .38, thanks.

Gotta give Taurus credit, though. Their marketing is earning them big sales on the thing. I hear comments about it at every gun show, even in Bass Pro I overheard a discussion about it. I don't see the hype, myself, but to each his own.

One thing, it is definitely NO outdoor gun.

ust saw this unique pistol on a video.
...Anyone have any experience, or comments on this gun?

American Rifleman, one the NRA's membership magazines, had a review some months back. In the review was a close up (8") photograph of the back of the cylinder. The ejector star of this example looked awful. Crudely machined, altogether nasty.

I wonder if the long cylinder might give a velocity boost to the 45 Colt. More time for the powder to burn before the cylinder gap.

I also wonder if the accuracy is any good.

It doesn't float my boat.

Nay. Go to Box O Truth, and read about it.

Simply put, shotgun shells are made for long guns.

I know I'm not the most up-and-up on gun laws, but the first thing that jumped to my mind was "Hey look, a legal 'Nebraska' Sawed-Off Shotgun."

Nonetheless, the concept is a novel thing, but I'm not exactly sure the execution is all that great; at the ranges it's useful for the Shotgun; the .45 Colt would be just as, if not MORE lethal, I mean; a .45 slug hitting you just about damn near anywhere at any range isn't something you're going fix with a bandaid and some creative swearing.

The only thing *I* can think of it'd be marketable to would be people who want a concealable protection weapon, but can't hit the broad side of a barn with a pailful of water; but seriously - those are the exact people who DON'T need a concealed handgun.

I'll agree with Jorg, as often I do.

I've fired one with .410 shells of some kind: buck I think, but don't really remember for sure. I do remember that although the recoil is noticeable it wasn't unpleasant.

The friend who let me shoot it said he thought it would be just the thing for interrupting a carjacker foolish enough to point a gun at him through or on the other side of a car window. I hate to comment on anyone's beliefs but I have no plans to fire .410 buckshot at a car window from inside that car. My contingency plan for such a situation is to teleport myself to another state. Might work even better.

I've heard it's flying off shelves and should prove a financial winner for Taurus. If one were to buy one, one would have plenty of company.

But it's not for me.

.410 shotshells are generally considered rather anemic for social purposes. It's slug is well under what the .45 Colt round would provide and its buckshot and birdshot look like answers to questions nobody has thought of asking.

Accomodating the .410 compromises the .45 - freebore isn't a good thing AFAIK.

It seems an immutable fact of life that something designed to do many things will do none of them very well.

Lastly, every time I hear "snake gun" mentioned, an old Cooperism comes back to haunt me and I find myself unable to take the concept seriously:

SNAKE PISTOLS
Actually, the idea of a 'snake pistol' eludes me. If you see a dangerous snake first, stay out of his reach. If you don't, what good is your pistol?

mine has the 6 inch barrel. i like it- i have killed several quail with it (yes, on the wing! stop laughing in the back!) and it shoots 45 colt quite well actually, much better than i expected.
pretty well made- not SW quality, but i only paid a little over 300 new for it. has an internal lock in the hammer. bluing is okay, not great- some ripples visible in the barrel. comes with basically no accessories- a cardboard box, key, manual and that is it. trigger pull is heavy due to the massive size of the cylinder. a bit of cylinder shake but not alarming. ugly, but cute in a way. like a bulldog.
pure fun.
God Bless

My friend and me saw The Judge at Gander Mountain..lots of gawkers. Funny.. overheard talk that sometimes R & D gets carried away. They are selling the salesman told me. Kind of facinating watching people ask about the Judge.

taurus

After buying a taurus model 85 I won't buy another taurus pistol.Never had a problem yet the quality is just not there.Burrs were left on the inside of the barrel, too much play in the cylinder.chip marks on the back of the cylinder just low quality compared to my ruger pistols.I modified it by grinding the hammer spur off so I could carry inside the waistband without getting stuck in the gut.I must point out I am a machinest and work in the arospace industry everything must be perfect, size wise and visual. Our customers would not pay for the quality you get with a taurus pistol.I am more picky than most people.

Its either a snake gun or an impulse buy. I think most are sold to people who own 0-2 firearms and don't know much about firearms in general, not to knock Taurus, more so the concept.

I have a 3" SS model. I bought it for my tractor gun to shoot field rats with when I'm bush hogging. I haven't shot any snakes with it yet but it should do the job. I didn't buy mine for SD. I have several other pistols and revolvers that fill that job. Overall my 3" doesn't do that well with 45's. The pattern on 2-1/2 shot shells spreads fast so you need to be close to what you are shooting at. (Perfect Tractor Gun) It would do fine for self defense loaded with 45's. I carry my Judge a lot when I'm in the woods too. It does exactly what I bought it for.

I'd like to find one at one of the local shops but guess what? Sold out always.
Oh well, I want plenty of other things too.......

I talked to my local gun shop guy today and he told me that they are flying off the shelves. They usually have them in stock but they sold their last one yesterday. They will have more in soon and I told him I want one soon. I plan on getting the 3" blued version.

They may be a gemick, but I think those that do not like them are not looking at what they were ment for. A close quarters vehicle gun where you do not need a lot of distance. You know, shooting a carjacker at your door.
