I am happy as I just got a lovely Taurus PT92 this week. This is something that has made my very excited. The reason for this is it is the first gun I've gotten since handgun preemption kicked in here in IL and now that Chicago laws on the subject of handguns are void, I figure it was time get something previously banned.

I really love the feel of it. The control placement reminds me a lot of the 1911, but with a easier to access slide release.

Nice PT92 you have! I know you are going to like it. I have not read or heard any negative comments on the PT92 pistols from folks that own or have owned them.

I have one of the older ones without the de-cocker feature. It is a well made and functioning pistol. It is the only taurus handgun I have ever owned.

I like the 18 round capacity Mec Gar magazines made for these.

I also have one with about 4000 rounds through it and still going strong. Mine is a decocker model and it compares nicely with the Beretta 92 also. This is my target bed side gun as well as test gun for new 9mm loads.

My first 9mm pistol was a PT92. A pretty good pistol, kinda big for CCW. I traded it away. I now wish I had not done that.

It sure is funny all the negative comments you here from folks that have NEVER owned one, ain't it?

I had one 25 years ago, sold it to buy a washer for my new bride. Missed it, bought another just like it as soon as I had a little cash. I had it for sale here just last month, but I decided to pull it and hang on to it. Great shooter, great looks, great feel.

Of the several Taurus pistols I've had enough first hand experience with to comment on; two models, the PT92(and 99) & PT145 haven't given me anything negative to say about them.

Congratulations on your purchase.

First, let me congratulate you on no longer having to comply with the following nonsense.

Getting a Chicago gun permit
Applicants must pay fees, take class
December 12, 2010
|By William Lee, Tribune reporter

Residents applying for a Chicago firearms permit must first have a state-issued firearm owner's identification card. Applications can be found at http://www.isp.state.il.us/foid/foidapp.cfm.

Applicants must attend a five-hour training course consisting of an hour of range training and four hours of classroom training by a state-certified firearms instructor. At the end of the course, the applicant must submit an affidavit signed by the instructor saying the applicant successfully completed the course.

Applicants must turn in their applications in person between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. at the Chicago police records customer service section at 4770 S. Kedzie Ave. They must have the application, all of the supporting documents and the $100 fee. The application can be downloaded at https://portal.chicagopolice.org/portal/page/portal/ClearPath.

Once applicants have received a permit, they can purchase a handgun but will have five days from the time they buy it to register it with Chicago police. There is a $15 registration fee for each gun.

Registered gun owners are required to submit an annual registration report regarding the status of their registered weapons. Owners are also required to renew their gun permits every three years.

Now let me say congratulations on your new acquisition. While I have never owned a PT92, from everything I've read or heard, that one is Taurus' best. After getting used to the frame mounted safety on my CZ75, I've grown to really like that feature as well.

If I'm not mistaken, under the new law you are allowed to have standard capacity magazines ,correct?

Yup. Total preemption for all handguns laws, which oddly would allow me to add a laser guide rod, but not a laser on the rail. Basically if it is part of a handgun(including magazine), they can't regulate it. The came into being last month with passage of the new concealed carry law.

Was originally planning on buying something crazy such as Draco or vz61, but decided to go with this as it offered way more utility.

That's great about the magazine ban. I also agree that the Taurus is probably more practical for HD purposes. It also has a more classic look, IMO. :D

Great gun, especially having the option with the safety/decocker design of carrying the PT-92 cocked and locked.

Congrats on your excellent aquisition! Don't listen to the haters (haters gotta hate) who will eventually show up asking why you bought a "junk gun." You didn't! You got a good 9mm there.

Had a PT-99, got bored with it, traded it, and now wished I hadn't, dang thang was a tack-driver and performed flawlessly!

Bought a used PT-92 from Cabela's, just needed a little TLC, as the previous owner obviously knew NOTHING about firearm maint./cleaning! It cleaned up nice and ran like a champ. A friend really liked it so I sold it to him (legal transfer in-state).

Got my current PT-92, also used, at a gun show. It's a two-tone black lower/nickle upper/chrome highlights, and THIS one I'm keeping!

These are really nice pistols. I have an older pre-decocker that I bought new in 1989. I have about 15,000 rounds through mine...mostly LRN reloads. Never failed to function in all these years. I've been tempted to buy a new one since my local Academy Sports just dropped the price to $359.00.

I have had a PT99 (the 92 with adjustable rear sight) for over twenty years and it is still one of my favorite "all day" shooters. It also is my IDPA pistol. I find it too large for CCW but know a couple of guys who do carry theirs routinely. Contratulations on a fine pistol and enjoy. I think its Tauruses' best semi-auto ever.

swmp9jrm, that does not appear to be the stainless steel version or their usual black finish. What is it? Also the grips on that look great.

Taurus calls it 'combat finish' - it's like a matte stainless. The grips are rosewood from Altamont.

Congrats on the 92 they are very nice handguns.

I had one and sold it. This thread has brought on a case of sellers regret. :cuss:

Congrats!

I've been after a mint older PT92 like Cocked & Locked's, but so far no luck.

Congrats on a really nice pistol. Back in the mid 80s I bought a PT99 ( same gun with adjustable sights ). Put thousands of rounds through it and loved it.
Sold it for a stupid reason, and have regretted doing that ever since. Every time one pops up on TX GUN TRADER, I give serious thought to replacing the one I let go.

I bought a used PT92 about a year ago (from Gander Mountain, but previously owned by a co-worker as it turns out) and it was 100% reliable . . . until part of the feed ramp sheared off. However, not knowing how many rounds the gun had through it previously or how well it was maintained, I'd bought the $30 one-year protection plan from GM, and with only two weeks to go on the plan, GM sent the gun back to Taurus for repair and had it back to me in a few weeks with a brand new barrel. I don't know if it would have taken longer if I'd dealt directly with Taurus or not, but in any case, I can't complain.

I wouldn't rule out buying another PT92, as the wife enjoys shooting it, meaning that I don't really have my own anymore.
