*Yawn*

$1500-$2000?

Let's see I could get that 6.5 Grendel upper I've been looking at, build an AR pistol and STILL have some spare change left over.

OR $1500-$2000 would buy an awful lot of AK's and let me play to my heart's content.

Naa, as much as I wanted a 552 several years ago you can keep it.

If you want a SIG battle rifle, there's one that on the market right now that has a fast slick bolt action, detachable magazine, and fires a 30-06 class cartridge, and it costs all of a $100. Its called a K-31 :neener:

TWO LARGE? If y'all can afford that kinda stuff, I've got a child support payment that you can help out on, too, or maybe you can help build up the 'momma-wants-a-new-Speed-Triple" fund..... :D

I am planning on dropping around 2 large for a Vector Arms RPD, and while can justify spending that much on a rifle that is very rare and has to be built to order (like the RPD), and is also belt fed/drum fed, I can't justify spending the same amount for a rifle that is new production, not a new design, and not that much better than other rifles on the market.

The best thing the Sig's have going for them is that they look cool as hell.

When all the squirrels, i have waged battle against since pre-pubesence suddenly take up arms against me i will spend 2grand on a 22...3. but until that day comes, i prefer to spend that kind of $ on a man sized caliber. but that just me :D . if i looked around a little i could get 2 M1A's for that price (or should i say.. 2 MORE M1A's ;) )

I might spend up to $1500 on one, but not more.

Contrary to what some people think, I believe 5.56mm *can* hurt people. :D

I believe SIG's window to sell a lot of these guns to civilians is closing very rapidly. All during the AWB, and even up till now, they could have sold a lot. There would be a good size market for something in this country that is not an AR or AK, if anyone would ever capitalize on it.

Now some companies are realizing that, and the competition is heating up. XCR, P2000, possible SCAR version down the road... all of these are slated to be in the $1200-$1500 range. The Sig is very nice, but not worth the extra 800 over any of those. IMO.

If the XCR comes to fruition and lives up to the hype, it is basically my dream rifle in every aspect. If and when it happens, I'll be looking at a 5.56 model, and after that a .308 model. Makes my mouth water. :D

I've e-mailed sig's vp and called them on the phone,

THERE ARE NO PLANS TO RELEASE THE SIG 550 TO THE AMERICAN PUBLIC

Its a damn shame that all our bans scared sig away from selling that fine rifle to us. Hopefully the SCAR will come our way.

hey risasi, where have you been looking at a 6.5 grendel upper? I'm interested in one too.

Wasn't Yugo SKS used to be $1000+ before the flood gate opened?

I'll go for $500 for a SIG because it is Swiss and not a Yugo. :)

Actually, the best thing the Sigs have going for them is that they are built like a friggin' Abrams tank. If you've ever handled one, you know that AR prices simply do not apply to such a rifle. They are a dream to shoot full auto. I'll put it this way, if you want the best built AK action assault rifle ever made, get a Sig 551.

And by the way, they do look cool as hell too.

It looks like a nice rifle, but a PTR-91 looks similar, and at 1/3 the price, you can get a PTR-91 in 308 right now.

I'll take a civilian version (semi-auto) of the M-14. Fine rifle! SIG can keep their rifle.

Yeah, I think I will stick with my AK and SKS. As long as cheap Russian ammo doesn't run out, I am as happy as a pig in slop!

Of course, I would love to have a 552 Commando, I just wish it were chambered for .308.

Key word there: can

For that money you could buy an M1A, Soccom II, or 3 G3, and still have money for mags and ammo.

2 Grand is custom built LRB M1a/M14 country.I would probably buy one for the same reason I own a para Fal,just to say I own it and for my M14's to have something to point and laugh at in the safe.5.56 is not a high power rifle round so neither the AR nor the Sig qualify as true battle rifles, battle carbines is closer to the truth.I would however definetly prefer the Sig to the AR as far as that goes.
