There are "copper washed" bullets, which I think are just electroplated. That may not leave enough copper to protect the core from the rifling and vice versa. I don't know if conventional swaging methods could make a much thinner core either.
also, if you want a bullet that will penetrate, use solid turned bullets. I use some 109gr 6.5s that have a .595 BC rating! they wouldn't be very leathel, but they have great ballistics
