Ok, so I'm at the shop earlier this week, reveling in the fact that I am now a firearms manufacturer, and fully licensed to build NFA weapons. Well, it's rarely a good idea to leave me alone with my evil thoughts for long.
There was a used, New England Firearms Pardner SB1 12 gauge shotgun sitting on the rack, and I happened to have an Advanced Technology AR-style collapsible stock set for an NEF single-shot laying around. Add those two components together with a machine shop, an SOT, and my twisted mind, and you get this:
A 10.25" barreled short-barreled shotgun, registered on a Form 2.
It serves no logical purpose, whatsoever, other than the "I could legally do it" purpose. I took it to the range yesterday, and ran about 15 rounds through it. Most were Remington Reduced Recoil slugs and 00 Buck, along with some S&B 00 Buck. It will put a beating on you. Being the sick individual that I am, I just had to do it. I put one, and only one, 3" Magnum slug down range. WOW! What recoil, and what a fireball! I now have a sore shoulder, and a small bruise.
Was it worth it? Why not? Does it make sense? Not really! Would I ever find a use for it, such as HD, skeet, or hunting? No way! Would anyone really want to pay a $200 transfer tax to buy one? I highly doubt it! But, the law says I can do it, I had the stuff laying around, and it was just begging to be done. Kind of like sailing westward, looking for a passaage to the Orient.
