The worst managed promotion in NFA history....

Too true. I benefited from it in that I was going to buy a Maxim that week anyway so the free can was truly just an added bonus, but what an incredibly long process it was.

This doesn’t seem to be their only booboo. I saw on another site that Silencer Shop’s Form 1 submission service was having their applications rejected because ATF has now decided that third parties can’t submit a Form 1 on someone else’s behalf.

I'm not clear on what happened - did they not anticipate the demand, and so didn't have enough product to meet it?

Two different companies.
Silencerco is a manufacturer in West Valley, Utah.
Silencer Shop is a distributor in Austin, Texas

Yep, ATF has flipflopped several times on how SS can submit NFA forms. SS follows ATF's rule, then ATF without warning changes their mind.

Silencerco offered a buy one, get one promotion. A buyer would purchase a silencer, then get to choose a freebie.....the more expensive the purchased silencer allowed a more expensive freebie. Its a great way to get rid of excess inventory. The problem was they were completely overwhelmed by orders. They put out a press release saying "oops, we were surprised" but really a buy one get one free? It wasn't a surprise.

Not only did they have little excess inventory to fulfill orders, they didn't start actually manufacturing the freebies until many months later. Compounding the debacle was SiCo's abysmal response......their method of claiming the freebie was faulty, using the same customer service number they used for repairs and normal customer service, plus they didn't post an OOPS WE GOOFED! for many months. Didn't exactly instill confidence in their company.

Quite a few buyers also thought they didn't need to pay for a tax stamp or transfer fee for the "freebie", because it was free. Wrong.
