Have any of you been so smitten with a new cartridge/weapon that you had to have it at all costs? Has the desire been so strong that you were willing to sacrifice most of your firearms or other valuables to acquire this holy grail of a firearm?
Let me say that I am smitten with this Robinson Arms XCR rifle in 6.8spc and want to have a TA11 ACOG on it. I cannot however afford this combination without sacrificing a large part of my firearms inventory and I have no other collateral I can give up to finance the exchange.
The the little guy on the other shoulder tells me that it would be a stupid thing to do and that what I have is more than sufficient for whatever you might need a firearm for. He also tells me that Robinson Arms is a small company and is having problems keeping up with demand and that the 6.8spc cartridge is still new and expensive.
I am the type of person that doesn't like to have duplicate tools for the same job, I'd rather take that duplicate tool and buy a different tool for a completely different application altogether.
But how can someone give up an M1A, an M1 Garand, or an SLR-95? I just can't morally do that.
I guess I just have to wait for that financial windfall then take the plunge.
As a side note, when that time comes, what are the other alternatives to the XCR rifle? I do prefer the 6.8spc caliber and a piston driven action. I know of one other mfg and that is LWRC.

There is no alternative to the XCR......

On a slightly more serious note, supporting a small manufacturer, producing one of those rarer of beasts, an all US firearm from design to components to build to sell is not a bad thing.

Also the more that are bought, the more the manufacturer can invest in infrastructure and therefore ease the bottleneck.

Now, to create more pain in your wallet, If you buy the XCR with the 5.56 and 7.62x39 kits as well, then you'll never have to worry about ammo going out of fashion.....Not to mention your purchase will assist in the XCR-M in 7.62x51....:D

Hey I didn't say I'd make it any easier......The only other rifle that tickles my fancy right now, apart from the "it cost HOW MUCH" ranges is the Keltec RFB.....M'mmmmm bullpup in .308 loveliness.......:)
