What autoloaders tend to have thinner grips?

Unfortunately, I have small hands.

Guess thats what you get for having big feet...:scrutiny:

1911's have one of the thinnest profile grips.

You can also then get a thinner grip for the 1911. May I mention a Colt Government?

I've also found Sig Sauer P220's to be comfortable to shoot.

Others Include P232, Walther PPK, Walther P22 etc...

If you want thin then 1911 variations are your best bet, followed by the Kahr pistols ... the only doublestack autoloader I'd consider "thin" is the Steyr M series.

How are the double-stack 1911s compared to the single stacks?

And what about Hi-Powers?

Double stack 1911s are quite large. Easily on par with the Glock 20/21. Most any double stack is going to be quite big. I have large hands and of the double stacks I've tried the only ones that feels small to me are the Hi-Power pattern guns. Definately worth looking into.

CZ pattern guns will also have a long trigger reach which will exagerate the feel of the grip. As mentioned the Steyr pistols are fairly small grips for double stacks.

Hope that helps. Now get out their and grab some stuff ;)

jar-it looks like one could take a lot of the wood off the HP, no?

You can thin them down some; but the grips kinda set into the frame acctually so it wont help all that much. Mine wears a set of old plastic Inglis HP grip circa 1940's. I have found these to be about the thinest P-35 grips.

Is the BDM a refined model of some other Browning design, or a new one altogether?
Is it as reliable as Browning's other guns?

thin gun

When I want to carry the flattest gun I have (reminds me of an old girlfriend) I take either my 1951 Russian TT33 or a 1964 Chinese Type 54.
Slim, flat, but reliable and powerful.

I have met many people who thought the Hi Power fit their small hands very nicely.

Another to try is the Kahr P9. Very thin grip profile on that pistol

The Colt 1903 is very thin, they knew how to make pocket guns back then. Nowadays, the STI BLS9 looks to be one of the thinnest around.

Not including pocket pistols, my votes for single stack are:

1. Sig 239 and 225
2. Kahr -- particularly the P-9
3. H&K P7-M8
4. Walther P5 Compact
5. Star BK
6. Glock 36
7. S&W 3913
8. 1911 w/ small grips and short trigger

My votes for double stack are:

1. Browning BDM (possibly the best)
2. Browning Hi-Power
3. Glock 19 or 23
4. Steyr M-9 or 40
5. Walther P-99 w/ small grip insert

I find the trigger reach on CZ-75 and CZ-40 to be a big long unless you are carrying cocked and locked... Illini

THX for the responses!

btw, I will always carry cocked and locked, assuming my gun doesn't have a decocker
