Unfortunately, it's not the $300.00 IOR Valdada scope that I actually purchased for it. :(

While up at Impact Guns shooting my new .357, I looked at a Trijicon Accupoint. You know, the kind that comes mounted on the false buttstock? I'd seen these before.

But this one was a 1.25-4x model. I had though that even with something as low as 1.25x, there'd be too much distortion for open-eyes, close range shooting.

I was wrong! The distortion is noticable, but your brain corrects for it, and it's very natural. Optics quality seemed first rate and the scope seems very versatile. Not the best choice for, say, an M21 or SR-25, but fine for a 16" FAL carbine.

Might have to sell the Valdada and get the accupoint. Have time to decide, though. I won't get my rifle back from Arizona Response Systems for quite awhile.

One comment that I hear about the Accupoint - the center-post reticle combined with the lack of horizontal stadia marks makes it very difficult to hold over for range. The thick center post obscures the target.

Were it me, I'd look at a Meopta K-Dot, or just stick with the IOR. Perfectly good optic, that.

Would the trouble with holdover be any different than, say, equipping the rifle with a dot sight (which I've considered doing)? I think of scopes like that as dot sights with some magnification capability. The most range I'd probably try to squeeze out of it would be 300 meters, and .308 doesn't require much holdover at that range.

Valdada makes a 1.1-4x scope as well, but I think I can get the Accupoint for less.

The AccuPoint would probably be slightly worse in this capacity than a dot sight, because of the bottom post getting in the way.

No, for a 300-yard shot you'd be in good shape. Any farther might quickly become frustrating.

Hey, give it a try. Worst case, Trijicon optics hold their value pretty well on EBay. ;)
