I'd vote for the .44 Magnum--just not a Taurus--maybe a 4" 629, or a 5.5 inch Redhawk, or 5.5 inch Super Blackhawk--just not a Taurus.

Both meet your general requirements, but the .44 Magnum (as you noted) is far, far more versatile than the 10mm (and thereby more fun AND more practical). Your .44 Magnum can accommodate anything from low-end plinking loads (200-grain LRNFP at 750 fps) up to stuff than will handle any North American (and most African) game (300-grain JFN at 1189 fps).

If you ever decide to reload, the .44 Magnum is a lot better choice--it's a whole lot easier to find your brass (and less expensive too--you can't use lead bullets in a Glock and your brass with last longer with a .44).

None the .44s mentioned come with plastic sights. If you buy a Glock, it's just about an immediate expense to replace those plastic sights. As time goes by, you're not replacing recoil springs, mag springs, etc., etc., etc. with your .44--your just shooting, and shooting, and shooting it. And while the hi caps for 10mm are nice--they are still running over $100 each (when you can find them)--and besides, they really, really make your ammo bill go up (at least for me anyway). :)

The decision I made was really an odd one. I decided to...wait. I am moving soon so I intend to start reloading when I have the room to do so. This will make both of them economically viable to operate. And in the mean time, I've discovered that I can get similar results from my GP-100 with some real hot .357 as I can with a 10mm just without the capacity. So the current working plan is this:

1. Move.
2. Get a box of hot and expensive (Buffalo Bore maybe) .357 as a holdover.
3. Reload so that I can take economic advantage of reloading while learning and eventually load .44 or 10mm and .357 to "appropriate" velocities.
4. Keep my eye out for a smoking deal on either one or both. Snatch it when it hits.
5. The current primary focus though is the .44 based on seeing a bear at one of the properties I was at recently. Taurus is still my favorite for shooting and comfort. If I really want to get the lead out, I will opt for a Ruger.

There were too many advantages to each to discount either as I saw evidenced in this thread.

10mm

I love magnum revolvers, and I love the mighty 10mm.
I would steer you away from the taurus guns if at all possible.
My G20 has been flawless for me.
But many of my other tens would be just as good, maybe even a little better.
Like my razorback, my 1076, or maybe even a .41 magnum or a hot .45 colt.
Nothing wrong with the G20, though so I have to vote for it, as it was specifically mentioned.

do your self a huge favor, prior to buying

I voted for the Glock ,only because :
I can never find a taraus that has a good enough action.

BEFORE YOU BUY
check out the Ruger .44's

or the Smiths

good luck

I'd take a Taurus revolver over a Glock every day of the week and twice on Sundays. My Taurus 455 Tracker is as good as any new Smith product. Trigger pull, finish, you name it. The only problem I have had with it was my Dad absolutely fell in love with it so I gave it to him for Father's day. I still have my Taurus 82 and it's been as reliable as the sun for almost 15 years.

Yep. Faced with this mighty decision myself, I bought both! :)

A 10-year old 629 with a 6" barrel and a new Kimber 10mm. Life is good. :D

I would pick a 4" SW629 1st and Glock 29 2nd before your pics.

BTW a 4" 629 is same wt as a full size 1911 so anyone that carries a 1911 concealed should have no problem with the 629 in the field IMO.

When the 44 is loaded with 44 specials it is in same power range as 45 acp also.

I like the 10mm but I am to lazy to own autos in calibers that aren't common.
