Yeah, that dealer seems to be a bit insane. Some months ago when I sold my S&W 19 and 57 and my SIG 226 they went beyond lowballing me on the price they offered. They tried to get me to think that they could sell all three for less than $900 (when they had used SIGs in lesser condition on their shelves for $800) and months ago when gun sales were at record highs they tried to tell me they were at record lows (at the dealer I put them on consignment with my SIG alone sold for less than $150 less than what they claimed all three would sell for).
I called another dealer that often carries Kel-tec (they are a bit far for me to drive there just to see what they have now that I've moved). They don't currently have a PF9 or P-11, and when I asked if they ordered them for customers they told me that they always have them on backorder with their distributor. So, I guess I just have to keep checking in with them. They do have the P3AT but if I go with the Kel-tec I will probably go 9mm (especially since both 9mms are small enough and the price is similar).
After some checking on the Kel-tec owners group forum I still have the P-11 as my current top choice, but the PF9 is dropping and may be dropped from my list altogether. The P-11 has been around for a while and seems to (usually) be a pretty good gun, and when there are problems Kel-tec stands behind their products and has some pretty decent customer service. The PF9 seems to have a lot more problems, including some that are part of the design (apparently the problem I saw at the dealer is common- it is easy to short stroke the trigger and it won't reset without manually cocking it by racking the slide, something that would suck in a self-defense shooting).
So, top on the list is the P-11. The LCP is still on the list (I may give it a try- I haven't had good luck with Ruger centerfires, but usually they are pretty good and I do have a MkII which is a great .22). I'm also considering just ponying up the money (after selling the Guardian and Bersa, and maybe the 85CH) to get one of the higher end guns (PPS, PM9, SW990L, M&P compact). I'm not sure which of the second two options are more likely, and I think the P-11 is significantly higher on the list than the other options.
I would also add the Bersa CC to my list (even though I don't like it much, my Bersa Thunder has been quite reliable) but it doesn't seem to be on the MD approved list. The list shows the Bersa Thunder .380 as approved, but they require being pretty specific- the Bersa Thunder .380 Matte Plus is approved separately for example- so I don't think the CC is approved. Too bad, the size is pretty good and I'm sure it is priced right, though I'm not a fan of the slide mounted decocker/safety (or the sharp corners on my Thunder .380).
