Thinking about selling

I always start with the people I know who shoot. I have several buddies who insist I notify them whenever I’m looking to sell and over the years I’ve not needed other options. For a dozen or more I’d consider taking the time to list them somewhere and deal with shipping.

Currently, we are coming out of post 2020 election/Covid shortage cycle ... not a good time to be selling
Good thing for OP @algsey is that we are at tax season and many will be getting tax refunds to possibly spend on guns.

Good idea, especially if they have tax refund money burning in their hands.

When I built new 20" fluted .223 Wylde AR upper for bench group shooting, I thought about offloading one of two 18" heavy barrel .223 Wylde upper that consistently produced MOA groups and a fishing/shooting buddy goes, "Dang, I just got into some money and was looking to buy a gun and I love that upper because it makes me look good." and ended up buying the 18" upper and 9mm 16" spare upper I had with a bunch of Endo mag kits for what I spent on them.

Ended up more than covering the cost of 20" upper and when PA had Timney/Trigger Tech drop-in triggers for less than $99, I bought one of each - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/black-friday-2023.924960/page-3#post-12766325

OP:

You realize that a simple sale To a retail gun store will bring you only Wholesale —about 40 percent— of a gun’s new/used retail value?

They normally only buy such guns from either desperate or uninformed people, sometimes known as S——rs.

I did the same thing. Firearms just sitting in the back of my safes and I'm not getting any younger. I went the consignment route at my LGS. I know the owner well and he knows prices. I set my price so I end up with what I want after paying his cut. He does everything and all I have to do is collect my check. No messing around with tire kickers, non paying bidders or meeting some shady character in the wild. The market was ripe 2-3 years ago but it has slowed as of now in my area. Guns are not moving like they were and the racks and cases are full so I backed off till the next hit.

I'm at the same state of mind. I'm moving some guns I do not shoot and have no reason to keep. My avenue is local gun shows. Don't know if the local laws of your state of residence allows or not. Mine obviously does.

You have to know the laws in your state before selling them. I’ve had great luck selling mine at gun shows, to dealers and other non-felon residents.

Hey all, I’ve been collecting firearms for the better part of 25 years now. Been thinking of downsizing by selling off about 15-20 pieces. What’s the best avenue to get the most money, without a lot of hassle? I don’t typically sell, just always buy lol.
Find a trusted dealer and put them on consignment.
