Thinking of buying a Glock 30, any reason NOT to?

I've danced with the 30 myself for years.

Small for large hands and then there is the kaboom issue with Glocks . . . . . I don't think it applies to the 30 though.

edited to add: by small I mean you can't get all your fingers on the grip . . . . always bugged me which I guess is why I carry an n-frame smith.

I have had my Glock 30 for 6 years, have put several thousand rounds through it and have not had a single hiccup. This is the most reliable firearm that I have ever owned bar-none. When I first got my CCW a year ago I tried to carry my G30 but found that it was just to darn bulky. Back then I was using a first generation Sidearmour IWB. I eventually changed to carry something else until I found out about the virtues of the Milt Sparks VersaMax 2 holster. I had one for my HK P7 and liked it so much that I ordered one directly from Milt Sparks, Inc. The G30 in a VM2 is a dream to carry and distributes the weight and bulk of the thick gun nicely.

If you plan to purchase a G30 I would highly recommend a VM2 and a nice sturdy belt.

happy Shooting.

I've been carrying mine for four years. Nice solid piece, and accurate as hell.

I carry in a Comp-Tac C-TAC now (had a Gurkha before)... comfortable for 24 hour carry.

I think the G27 is a better ccw gun unless you absolutely have to have a 45. THe 27 is easy to conceal and accurate. I don't shoot reloads in mine (I don't reload). However, I have shot alot of factory ammo including a lot of aluminum cased bazers without a problem (and no the cases aren't bulged at the 6 o'clock position).

If you carry the G27 with the factory 9 round mag its very concealable and back it up with G22 15 round mags you have alot of firepower. The g22 mags work just fine in the G27.

Suggestions? Before actually buying a G30 one might want to look at, hold and shoot a G21 and G36. I like the 21 better than the 30 based on its ergonomics, but a 36 would be a better purse gun.

A CZ 2075 RAMI is a little smaller, and more ergonomical. If you like the Glock-action trigger, with no safety, then have fun. If you want DA/SA with a safety, get the RAMI. My wife loves her RAMI.
Also, czeck out the CZ75 PO1, if you can carry a slightly bigger gun. With the CZ standard cap mags, you can have 15 rounds on tap.
If you are wedded to the idea of 45, the 30 is one of the most compact 45s on the market, and the one and only Glock I actually liked shooting.
If you must have 45, and, like most of us, have a low budget, look at the EAA Witness line of compacts, as the compact Witness 45 is a very good all steel gun and lower priced pistol, although heavy. The Bersa Thunder 45 has a good following, too.
Go to whatever rental range is nearby, and try several differant pistols before buying - save much grief and financial pain later....

If the large grip fits your hand and you can live with the slide width, there is no reason not to buy a G30. I had one for a while, but had issues with both, so I sold it. My particular gun was also fussy about magazines (I sorted through four or five of them before finding two that were reliable) and bullet shape (it would feed roundnose FMJ or JHP having a roundnose profile just fine, but balked at feeding conical-shaped hollowpoints). A G36 I once shot at a rental range worked better for me, though I do not own one. I do have a G19 I like very much.

Two reservations about the G30!

Any reasons NOT to buy a G30 is the way you phrased your question. Let me tell you my purely personal reactions. First the G30 is one sweet shooting gun and IMHO it is the absolutely best shooting gun in the Glock lineup.

Now to my purely personal reservations. As a CCW I found it to be "blocky" and uncomfortable for me. With a good holster and belt it can be made a fine CCW, but blocky and uncomfortable to carry.

I have owned several Glocks and, for the life of me, could just never get comfortable with the Glock Safe Action setup. I know what they say but just seeing that trigger waiting to be depressed has always given me the screaming willies and is my main reason for moving away from Glocks.

Please note that I have not said (nor will I) anything bad about the Glock 30 per se. My problems/reservations are purely mine FWIW. Good shooting:D

The grip is pretty big around... Other than that, I think it's one of the best carry guns around... I'd strongly consider at least handling the G30 and the G36 before making any decisions...

The best way to test and see if the G30 is right for you for concealed carry is to stick a brick inside your pants and go about your daily routine.

If the brick is still comfortable at bedtime, then go for the G30.

The G30 is definitely a chunky handgun.

However it is super reliable and very accurate. I had one for about 6 months before I sold it and got a G36, which I sold and got a ....well..you know the story.

Recoil is pretty mild, but the thick grip got some getting used to. I could hang onto it just fine, but I wouldn't feel as comfortable with a wet/sweaty grip. My advise is that you rent one or borrow one and shoot it at the range first.

As for HK's..look around. You can find a nice used HK for the same price of a G30. It just takes a bit of looking and ignoring those who want to fund a crack habit with $700 plus HK prices.

Good Shooting

The G30 was invented to take advantage of the Clinton magazine ban. Now that the ban is gone I would probably go with the G17. It holds more rounds. It is easier for me to shoot accurately. I can conceal it just as easily as the G30. YMMV.

My personal preference is the G17, it's a well balanced gun with great accuracy and to me it doesn't seem as bulky as some of the other glock models. It's my ccw... But like has been stated in other posts on this thread, go to a rental range or someone that has a few glocks, and try them out first...

I can't conceal a G17 as easily as I can conceal a G30.

I find my G30 conceals best with a 9 rd mag which has a butt plate that doesn't extend beyond the bottom of the back strap.

I carry my G30 daily in a smartcarry or in an owb holster or very rarely in a FIST IWB holster. Mostly it's the smartcarry. I've also carried it in a big oversized cargo pants pocket with no problem.

I like the G30 so much that I had to buy a second one. I've pared my HG collection down to a Springer Loaded GM 1911, two G30s and a G26 (as small as I'll go) for when really deep concealment is needed.

I am considering buying a G29 or buying a G29 top end for one of my G30s.

I have been concealing my Glock 27 for 4 years now. I like its size and I am proficient with it. Unless you are dead set on .45, check out all of the mini-Glocks first. I wouldn't mind having one of the Glock 36s at all. I would consider the G36 before the G30 myself. If all esle fails, buy the G30 and when you don't like it, buy a G36, if you don't like that, keep buying handguns until you find one you like. All the guns you have left over should be placed about the house as part of your effort for Homeland Security. Good luck.

The G30 is a fine weapon and a powder-puff to shoot.

It is, however, about as ergonomic as a brick & makes Rugers look svelt.

You might think about trying the G29, the G30's steroid-laden 10mm brother. Very manageable recoil.

Personally, double-stack autos are all a bit chunky IMO (or am I the chunky one?)

The G30 was a little chunky in my hands, so is the G21, but the both shoot great. I've thought about buying both, but for carry I bought the G36 and I am happy I did. I carry it in an Alessi Talon, but I am considering getting Milt Sparks Versa Max 2.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I got to the shop, and after handling a few different options, I decided to go with the CZ 2075 Rami in .40S&W.

I will post up a range report as soon as I have waited my 10 days and I have had my time to "cool off" and I am no longer "angry." :barf:

I have small hands and can't shoot the 21 worth crap. However, I shoot the 30 well and conceal it easily. I dislike the 36, it doesn't fit my hand right.

 :p :D :)
