got more than I "need" and we are trying to pay for a new house so here is what I got:

Ruger 77 .270-Dad's old gun
ruger 77 R-20 inch barrel version of the full size model-.270

Ruger #1A .257 roberts
Ruger 77R-same as the little .270 listed above, only in 257 roberts

ruger #3 .223

Ruger #1B 25-06-little brothers 1st deer came with this one, so it will stay

Marlin 30-30-scoped
Marlin 35 rem-no scope

Tikka stainless/synthetic 25-06

two springfield 03 custom guns: one 30-06 soon to be in hand and one 26 inch bull barrel 25-06 that will shoot darn near one hole groups at 200 yards...

win 9422 and marlin 1894 44mag for "fun"

The list above is what I was considering keeping...listed below is what I intend to sell...

rem 788 358 win-semi custom with a 20 inch bull barrel-shoots itty bitty groups and I hate to see it go, but I find myself choosing the 35 rem or the short .270 over this one when hunting...and the .270 and the 30-06 should cover just about anything I will ever hunt anyway.

pre 64 win 94 32 spl-near mint but no rear site-has a lyman peep-nice trigger and I shoot it well, but the 35 rem and the 30-30 tend to get the nod in the field.

ruger 77 RSI .243-accurate as all get out but can't warm up to the full length stock or putting a scope on top of this gun.

Savage 99 .300 savage-good condition-just traded for this one but have not shot it to date...but I think the 35 rem would be in the field more so than this one-the marlin just fits me better...

Ruger #1B 257 roberts-very nice gun that is no longer made-great trigger-great wood, but with what I have listed above in the keeper list, I just can't find a place for this one...

I also plan to pick up a ruger #1 6.5x55 if they ever come out with this combo, just for kicks!

so, what say you????

Dave

well now,

that's a pretty nice gun cabinet full my friend. I'd say your Winchester in 32 Win. spec. might be the winner in the dollars catagory. Find a local cowboy action shooter with a hankerin' for some original iron and you ought to be able to get near 4 figures for that rifle alone. I'd have to agree with your thinking regarding which guns to keep and carry in the field but I'm not sure why I would keep a Ruger in .223 and trade another one in .257 Roberts when I already had 2 other .257's that I was going to keep. If you reload wouldn't it make sense to simplify the field and trade the .223 Ruger? Just a thought from somebody not well equipped for it.:D BTW check out Paco Kelly's leverguns.com website for some interesting stuff to us lever action fans. Good luck.

From your description of how you feel about them and what they are, I'd sell...

One of the .257 Roberts (unless you've got a reason for owning two of them or unless both have sentimental emotions attached to them both).

The Winchester 94 in .32 Special (you don't seem like you like it much and you never shoot it from the sound of it).

Ruger 77 RSI in .243 Win (there's absolutely nothing wrong with the rifle, but if you don't really shoot it and can't warm up to it, then maybe someone else will).

Maybe the Savage 99 just because you haven't even shot it yet and it's new to you.

If a couple of them just have to go, it sounds like these are the ones. Personally if you have any attachment what so ever to any of these or if any of them belonged to someone else that's now gone that you cared about, then I WOULD NEVER SELL THEM NO MATTER WHAT AS YOU'LL REGRET IT EVENTUALLY.

But if they're just safe queens that never get shot and you bought them yourself, then that's fine. I'd make sure that's that what I wanted to do first though. The rule I try and go by is the three year rule. If I haven't taken it out several times in the last three years I don't mind selling it if I have no sentimental attachment to the firearm.

Also, if you're thinking that you can just replace them later, you might want to re-think that idea. Anything that you sell now and try to replace later will likely be higher priced and in worse condition. But if you never shoot than and you're absolutely sure, then from the sounds of it, these are the ones. Wait awhile just to be sure, don't take the advice of strangers on the internet about your property, think on it for awhile and then decide.

The Remington 788 in .358 I wouldn't sell if I were you, you haven't even really considered selling it seriously and already you're mourning the fact that it's gone. That's a bad sign and you should probably keep it.

winchester 94 32 spl would be my cream of the crop... ;) If your looking to get rid of it down the road drop me a line..
