Shopping for a new centerfire rifle. Presently, I have .243 BAR, 7mm RemMag BAR, and .308 M1A, all semi-autos. Just getting into reloading and want to do mostly non-competitive target shooting with possible occasional whitetail deer hunting.

Was considering a bolt action, .243 or perhaps .308 (more options for target loads) and want to stick with one of the calibers I already own. I am a right hander who shoots lefty because of a dominant left eye, so I want an ambi stock. RH bolt would be OK

My short list:
Savage Weather Warrior
Remington 700 CDL
Browning A or T-Bolt
Thompson Center, Encore ProHunter

I am leaning toward the ProHunter because of the ease of barrel exchange and the inherent accuracy of a single shot action. It looks like the non-thumbhole stocks on the Thompson is indeed ambi. Anyone own & shoot a TCF Encore ProHunter. I would appreciate any pro/con advice. Thanks

Yikes! I meant to put a ? not a thumbs down on the thread tag. Oops

Get it. Mine is actually one of my top shooters. I have barrels in 7mm.08, 300win mag, 30.06, 50cal ML, and just got a 12ga slug barrel the other day for it. 28 inch, will see soon how well that shoots. That is actually my "go to" rifle when out of state hunting. Love the fit and feel of it. Nice and light to carry and the sims recoil reduction stock on it makes my .300wm seem like a little puppy. The only "con" I can think of is that every barrel on it is a bit on the picky side as far as ammo. They all seem to LOVE Hornady bullets and 1 of them loves the Sierra line as well. My ML barrel will only shoot the TC 300gr shock waves worth a fiddlers damn. It was "o.k." I guess with the power belts but I don't like power belts performance on game so oh well there. Whichever barrel you choose, just be ready for it to be a picky bugger but once you find the one it likes, you will be in love with it. BTW, all mine was bought PRE S&W takeover except for this new 12ga barrel.
