Need some advice...I'm trying to decide between two rifles - having shot .22LR for a long time (have a great CZ .22) and moving into centerfire. Will be 95% target rifle on a short 150-200 yard range. These all shoulder well but I do not have a chance to fire similar before purchase.

In one corner - a CZ 527 in .223 with a decent scope. Called used but less than 10 rounds fired in total. Sold from reputable dealer. $600 for whole package.

In the other corner - a Browning X-Bolt. NIB. I have choices of .243 or .308, etc.... No glass. Ballpark $800'ish.

Lurking in background - a Browning BLR in .243 or .308 are available NIB. Ballpark $850-900. I know not best for target. But appealing.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Am I totally off base for wanting a lever for target shooting?

The scoped CZ is a steal if you want a 223. You are comparing apples to oranges looking at the Browning in a larger caliber. Plus, the CZ single set trigger is really nice for bench work.

First, you need to decide how you plan to use this rifle and which caliber is best. Then choose the rifle with the caliber that best fits the need.

I will say that I love CZ bolt action rifles. The 527 is a wonderfully compact rifle that handles delightfully and shoot well as long as you don't overheat the barrel. I highly recommend them.

Thanks for the comments. The CZ seems too good to pass up...can always get another after I re-fill the slush fund!

I vote for the 527 223

39Maple, I have a CZ 527 223 Varmint Laminate and paid around 1100 dollars for rifle and scope. If you can get one for 600 dollars with a scope that is one sweet deal.

I have a CZ 527 american, leupold 3x9-40 scope very accurate, 5 shot detachable mag, walnut stock. Its as good a rifle as any I have ever owned, and I have owned a few
