Hey,

I live in Massachusetts, and would very much like to see certain laws and regulations changed (or abolished). I was wondering what y'all think about the introduction of a bill to my representatives. According to state law, once the bill is presented to my rep, s/he is required to present it to the goverment.

Now, this is more a fantasy than anything else, but I'm still interested in opinions.

Here's what I'm thinking (and I'm not a lawyer, so legalese won't work...):

Name: Affirmation of Individual Rights and Accountability
Contents:
I. Introduction
1. we, as a people, have rights. The government exists because we entrust it to protect those rights and provide necessary services
2. information about crime, US Government registration and confiscation of firearms
3. information about the MA registration system, and how it hasn't solved, or helped to solve a single crime
II. Action
1. The US Constitution, being the law of the land, recognizes the right of people to keep and bear arms. This right shall not be infringed.
2. Infringement means affected in any way that prevents an individual from obtaining any firearm. Insert legalese saying that just because one firearm can be obtained, the government may not prevent an individual from obtaining another firearm.
3. As registration leads to confiscation, as seen in the U.S., the current database will be destroyed, along with all copies, backups, etc. Use lots of legalese to indicate that anyone who retains data shall be punished by some really big fine, and 1 year jail time.
4. As licensing leads to registration, the only license that an individual needs to purchase and/or posess a firearm is proof of US citizenship. This proof need not be carried on the person, and lack thereof cannot be held against the person.

Well, what would you add? What would you change?

It is kind of a nice idea, but you are going at it all wrong.

For instance:
Article 39 [Home]The home of citizens of the People's Republic of China is inviolable. Unlawful search of, or intrusion into, a citizen's home is prohibited.
Article 39 of the Constitution of the People's Demoratic Republic of China.

Those words aren't worth the paper (or in this case cyberspace) they are printed on. Nor would any words committed to paper in MA be worth anything.

The People's Demoratik Kommunewealth of Massachew$h*ts doesn't need any more laws. The ones they have are selectively enforced depending on which political party/religion a person belongs to.

For example, if one is a lawful gun owner, one is automatically considered suspect of being on the verge of committing an offense. If one is a Kennedy, one can kill a girl while driving drunk, and be blessed for it by recieving absolutely certain re-election, year, after year, after year. Do you think that those of us who aren't inveterate Demorats don't notice such hideous things? And wouldn't you say that it speaks volumes about the very people that would elect a thing like Teddy Kennedy?

Do you think that people don't notice that child-molesters go unchecked (criminally at least) in the P.D.K.M.?

Wouldn't you think that those issues would be the ones that need to be addressed first and foremost? Otherwise, aren't you then asking people that haven't a shred of dignity, honor, and respect; to dignify, honor, and respect the words that you thoughtfully committed to paper/cyberspace?

What the P.D.K.M. needs is a complete change of the current politicians and the one party system that runs the state.

You need to have 10 or so thousand laws repealed in the P.D.K.M.

No need for any new ones.

Look, there are only about 55,000 CCW permit holders in the state -- maybe only 3x that many FID card holders.

If you put up a ballot question as to whether citizens of MA have a RKBA, i'm sure the result would be rather dissapointing.

Though it makes me sick, GOAL has the right approach -- stem the tide, win where you can even in the smallest of ways. Don't risk dieing on this battle field when it will surely mean the war will be lost.

An move to NH as soon as possible!!!

Y'all are probably right. I do vote, and try to get the best represeentatives we can, but there'res not much to choose from. I'm also planning to get GOAL and NRA certified as a firearms instructor, so I can start converting people :) . I figure that, if I bring someone to the range, and they enjoy it, it's better if I can just sign a paper (of course, I'd give the person the proper training) and say, "Now, go apply for your permit." I figure I'm more likely to get a convert that way.

As for people not realizing that those crimes are not being prosecuted, no I don't think they realize. I haven't heard anyone speak about it in a long time, anyhow.

It's dissapointing, but I don't think I'm going to evacuate the state, yet. I'd rather stay, and figure out how to fight (even if it's nothing more than supporting GOAL), than to just give up. Who knows, maybe I'll get hit in the head and decide to run for office ;)
