Getting ready to choose new .243 between these 2....(replacing an A Bolt, primarily because I don't care for the wood stock it has..yes, I AM picky :D)

Have X Bolt Medallion in .308 and love it-have heard some really great things too though on the Icons.

Handled the Icon at Bass Pro-was impressed.

Any personal feedback or what you've heard from friends that have owned the Icon would be appreciated!

Don't own the Icon or the X-bolt but my new Winchester 70 Featherweight in 308 is a super fine rifle, the action is much better then I ever expected.

Big +1 on the 70....
The Icon feels cheap to me. It is too thin or something, I don't know what it is. My nephew has an x-bolt in 22-250 and I like it alot. I have an a-bolt in 325wsm and it is the man. I am wanting a featherweight in 30-06 for my next one though.

Good Afternoon,

I've got two Icons, a 7mm-08 and a 30 TC. I like them both. The 30 TC is proving to be the most accurate rifle I own. I don't have huge experience with other bolt guns but I'm certainly not regretting selecting Icons.

The only thing that doesn't seem to make sense is that both of those calibers are short action, releatively low recoil, and would do well in light, handy, rifles. The Icon does not qualify as a light handy rifle.

The X-bolt and Icon were my two strongest candidates when I was getting into centerfire rifles. I like the 60 degree bolt lift. I went with the Icon, partly to support local industry (I drive by the T/C facility in Rochester NH on my way to work). Within a year they moved to Springfield Mass! Oh well, no good deed goes unpunished!

As a side note, I hope everyone keeps ignoring the 30TC caliber. I was able to pick my Icon 30TC really cheap. I'm thinking of getting one in synthetic with a "Weathershield" barrel. Keep ignoring 30TC and I might be able to get another one cheap. I handload and get 308 Winchester performance. The commercial stuff with the magic fairy dust powder is suppossed to do better but I don't think Bambi or Bullwinkle will notice the difference.

Good Luck, stay safe, shoot straight.

My 243 Icon is a pretty, well handling rifle. I have shot sub-.75" groups with three different factory loads with bullet weights from 75 gr. to 100 gr.

It has a beautiful piece of wood on it that I have placed in my "too pretty to knock around in the pickup" category (side comment: I picked up a 243 Tikka T3 with a synthetic stock to use for that. It is also a very accurate rifle. Actually, the two guns [Icon and T3] are very similar mechanically). It is a very well fit and finished gun.

It is NOT for sale. And, I have never liked the Xbolt. I think that both the T/C and Tikka are better made guns.
