From what I was led to understand is that the Sears Model 54 was made by Winchester and is just a Winchester '94 with a Sears Roebuck roll mark.

Anyone know if there are differences internally? I assume maybe cosmetic differences like lower quality wood. Maybe not though. If anyone knows, input would be appreciated.

A High Roader started a thread on Levers and now I noticed I'm light in that department (thanks) :D. So I came across this sears 54 in real nice shape, $400. Very tempted.

It is mechanically identical to a post-64 model 94 Winchester. The difference is in the furniture. Birch instead of walnut, and a sheet metal cap on the forearm instead of a barrel band. $400 is a good price in today's market.

I have an older model 54. Different butt plate and forend cap, but mine has a walnut stock and forearm. I bought it used in 1977, not sure when it was made, but it shoots well. I will head down to the man cave tomorrow and post a pic or 2.

30-30? Pre-safety I would assume? I like some of the old store branded firearms. Just a neat part of the past. Was looking at a Western Auto .22 last weekend.

$400 seems fair now if it is in good shape and you like it.

Sometimes they were the same with minor differences in furniture or finish. It depends on the specs of the retailer from year to year. I had a store brand Mossberg shotgun years ago. Maybe something was different, I don't recall.

I’ve got a Sears lever but instead of a Winchester she’s a Marlin 336 in 30-30. Put against my brother-in-laws 336, there’s no difference other than what is marked on the barrel.
