I am currently attending school for law enforcement and just recently received a list of gear that we are recomended to have for skills. On the list was a recomendation for a high output flashlight.
Loose translation: WA can get a shurefire if he wants.
I ended up buying a SF E2D defender. The first one i got had a bad switch which resulted in me getting a replacment within hours. Not a huge deal with me, i'm willing to give second chances on lifetime warranty gear.
The E2D is an interesting light. It is similar in most ways to the E2 executive light and comes in a black instead of green finish it runs on 2 Lithium batteries and the lamp puts out 65 lumens. The difference between the E2 and E2D is in the tail cap and bezel of the light. It has a rather nasty shaped tail cap and bezel that is designed to be used as a striking surface in an emergency or as a pain compliance device. The light also has a nifty pocket clip and i find the light very comfortable to carry in my pocket.
The 105$ ( for a freakin flashlight!) price tag was a little hard to stomach and was one of the reasons i hadn't yet bought a shurefire, but he extra utilitarian purpose built into this light made it more atractive.
I would recomend this light. The fact that it is a self defense as well as an illumination tool is a bonus. With it's 65 lumen output you'd have no problem blinding an attacker with the light and then put him down with a strike to your favorite anatomical part with the striking surfaces or get away.
If you can hack the price men id encourage you to get one for your wifes, especially if she already carries a kuboton. I like mine.
