Thoughts on this particular 1911?

Your money Myself I wouldn't want a SIG For that money I would buy a Colt or a Springfield

i dont own one myself but have gotten to play around with one on occasion. they are solid and extremely tight. i think its fit together better than my springer. i dont shoot well enough to appreciate a match barrel but the thing was accurate with every junk load we put through it.

does S&W make a 1911 with comparable quality to Springer?

From everything I've heard, the Sig 1911s are reliable pistols, but personally, I dislike external extractors on 1911s. Also, the Sig "1911" slide appears to be quite different from the traditional 1911 design. These and certain other variations (from other manufacturers as well) don't appeal to me on a 1911 style platform. YMMV, of course.
1911 mods that I don't find objectionable include:
-flared/lowered ejection port
-front strap checkering
-bobtail
-extended beaver tail
-upgraded sights
-extended safety and/or slide release
Objectionable mods:
-rails
-front cocking serrations
-external extractor
-odd barrel lengths (e.g., Kimber's/Springfield's 4" rather than 4.25")
-CCO configuration
-1911s without barrel bushing (I mean, c'mon!)

Guitargod...do you find the external extractor objectionable because of appearance? (or performance?)
i have a s&w & it is great. i dont have any experience with the sig 1911. i have owned or still own several of the sig p series & they have all been great, right out of the box. i would say s&w or colt. the para gi esp & kimber custom 2 both look nice but from what i read, they seem to be hit or miss with quality. although i haven't had any problems with my 2 kimber pro carry's.

Current Sig 1911 production has a pretty good reputation.
Sig and S&W have done a good job with their external extractors.
The Sig 1911's are made in the USA (New Hampshire).
The down sides to this pistol
1. As mentioned earlier, the slide profile is different enough that quality holsters designed for a 1911 may not fit unless designed specifically for the Sig. Not really a big problem, but you must tell the holster maker it is for a Sig 1911.
2. This pistol says "black finish". The non-Nitron black finish Sigs seem to wear their finishes off rather quickly, and unevenly. The Nitron finish is much better. Underneath the black is stainless steel, so it is only a cosmetic problem.
I do like the grip safety Sig uses with the "spine" down the middle. I think it is a much better idea than the "speed bump" found on many 1911 grip safeties.
I would also rather have the S&W if given a choice, but the Sig is probably a pretty good option.

Looks like a nice gun for the money. Personally, I've never heard anything bad about SIG 1911's.

The Springfield is a Loaded and had a terrible slide to frame fit issue and had to go back to the factory to be fixed. Thankfully, their customer service is excellent and they fixed it promptly and made several upgrades to the gun while they had it at no charge. It's a much better gun now than before I returned it.

Ive owned 2 Sig 1911's Both were BEAUTIFUL and seemed like a great deal.
Both were total junk and i'll NEVER own another. If i got one for free, i would sell it and buy something else... ANYTHING else... id rather own a Rock Island over a Sig.
SIG makes some great guns, 1911's aren't one of them in my opinion
