Thoughts on this type of 2A advertising

As a former NFL and ASU player he'll appeal to the football-mad crowd. A lot of former sports figures have run, and been elected, on that notoriety alone.

I dunno, coffee, black rifle, prayer, football player (and TWD fans will take note of "Lucille"), he checks a lot of boxes.

Is the ad over the top? Most definitely. But clearly, the voters of today are only concerned with the superficial. No members of "The Squad" were elected because of the sheer brilliance and substance of their campaign speeches; it seems to have been their appeal to a certain demographic.

The Arizona 4th Congressional District is gerrymandered to be conservative Republican. Support for gun rights is overwhelming there. The only way for a candidate to make progress is by running to the right of the incumbent. Since hardly anyone can be further right than Paul Gosar, candidates have to make up for that by pure notoriety. The fact that this ad has become viral plays into that. It's not going to do the sponsoring candidate any good, though

Paul Hosar is generally well thought of by his constituents. Any challenger is going to have a tough hill to climb. Add to that the current state of affairs caused by the party in power and he has doubly tough row to hoe.
