I picked one of these up recently. German K98, all properly marked, not russian captured.

The barrel is threaded. I haven't seen (or noticed) one like this before. I know other mausers were threaded. However, is it common on a k98? Purpose?

Thanks!

Mine is a JP Sauer, 1940 (think that date is right).

The front sight is marked +5 and has a crown on it that looks Swedish which is why I think the barrel may have been switched out. Not sure though....
