Three Rifle Cartridges You Wish You Had?

I am a simple man with simple tastes. Exotic calibers that are hard to get or I would have to special load for myself have little interest for me. I like being able to pickup boxes of factory ammo of the shelf, fire a few rounds to see where it hits. And use it. Whether that is for hunting, target shoot, defense etc. That in mind I would like some 308 rifles. At least one bolt action and one AR. An M1 Garand for the novelty and history of it, so 30-06. And a small game/target rifle in 22mag. Ideally a semi-auto that works. The rest I have already.

Many of us would like to own more rifles in different cartridges. List your 3 cartridges and why you want them?

If you want to add a rifle chambered in it please add it also!
1) CZ BREN 2 BR in .308 Winchester. Because WANT. No other reason. Might be a good hunting rifle since we have no magazine size restrictions in AZ. But mostly WANT.
2) CZ 527M in 6.5 Grendel, because it looks like fun to play with in a bolt action carbine.
3) Maybe an AR upper in 7.62x39mm, because I have all the dies/mold for that caliber and brass, but no rifle any more...

The 3 on my list are military classics from when various militaries were trying to figure out what a service rifle should look like, and no holds were barred!

.30-40 Krag. Not to picky on model or even a correct, complete military arm. Messed up, had a chance to buy a very nicely done Krag sporter some years ago for a reasonable price, but was looking for something else specific at the show. By the time I got back around, the Krag was sold. I would REALLY love a Norwegian one in 6.5x55, but probably not germane to this conversation as I already posess the cartridge in an M96 Mauser.

6mm Lee Navy, preferably original. Just a very cool and rare rifle, and I have a thing for straight pulls.

Ross in original .280 caliber, although I would settle for a .303 conversion. Did I mention I like straight pulls?

I'd like a 6mm of some sort in a nice light bolt action. Probably 6mm creedmoor.

A couple others that have been on the wish list for a long time are a .30-40 Krag Ruger #3, and a .45-70 of some sort. Probably a Henry single shot, seems like that would be a good match.

I'd like to have a Rossi M92 in .357 and/or .45 Colt. I know, that is more then the rules called for. But technically they aren't new cartridges, I already use them. I just don't have a launcher for them in rifle form....

Mostly ones I've had, traded off, and now miss.

I really liked my Ruger77, tang-safety in .338WinMag. If I got another, it would be a Ruger #1. I still have all my .338 dies, brass, and bullets in hopes of getting another one day. However, as I've fallen in love with black powder, I don't know when I would ever use it. But that is one sweet cartridge.

I also miss the 6.5 Swede. I had one that looked like it just came out of the factory (was a Husky) yesterday, and then sent to the S&W factory for bluing. Although I prefer Military rifles to "sporters", I sure could live with a sporter if it was done well in the classical sense and style. Open sights of course. But I'd be very happy with a nice 6.5 Arisaka type 38. I'd want that in original condition and configuration.

Only other one I can think of would be the Remington Model 8 in .35 Remington.

If I could magically turn my 7mm-08 into a .308, I probably would in favor of ammo availability. Same for my Browning .270, if I could make it a 30-06 I would.

Aside from those two, small pretty insignificant factors, I'm happy with my guns as they are and don't feel limited in any real way. Most of the rifles I need, I have. But if I could throw in a 3rd cartridge I wish I had I might very well jump on the 6.5CM bandwagon once the wheels cool off a bit..... a nice long range precision rifle would be cool. I have been saying that for years but I have yet to even test the limits of range for calibers I already own. I would be just as happy to ring steel at 300-400 yards but have never stretched anything further than 200 yards.

Oh yeah, love my HR single shot in Hornet flavor. Big heavy barrel. Yes, get you one!

.223 rem, because I prolly should have one; if things ever get back to normal it should be easy to get quality ammo; would be a good first centerfire for when my son is ready to move up from rimfire.

.280AI, because it's cool; super-efficient chambering getting nearly 7 mm mag velocity with much less powder; allow me to take nearly any game in NA with much less recoil than my .300WM; uses the same powders I stock for my other rifles; can use .30-06 cases if I can't find brass on a long-term basis

.375 H&H or Ruger because my FIL has a .338 ; also uses many of the same powders that I stock (H&H is a little better in this regard).

Back when I started shooting many years ago, I liked the idea of a .22 Hornet. At this stage, I'd rather download a .223 since I'm already set up to load for it.

I have a 22 K hornet. There is no way you will ever down a 223 low enough to save all of the powder a hornet can save you. I get 636 rounds of K hornet for a pound of Lil Gun.

My three…
.50 BMG in a Barrett semiauto, for fun!
.22 Hornet in a mini Mauser bolt action, for small game/varmints.
.300 RCM in a Ruger M77 so Id have a stablemate to my .338 RCM!

Time for my three. First thanks to everyone for adding their choices to the thread.

My first cartridge is the same as @NMachine the 8mm Remington Mag. I enjoyed reading articles about it from fellow lefty Craig Boddington. I passed on a model 700 KS Mountain Rifle chambered in it 30+ years ago (didn't have the $) and have regretted it ever since. I would like a less expensive semi custom or custom chambered for the 8mm RM with a model 700 type action and a 2 position safety that locks the bolt on safe.

The second cartridge is the 375 Ruger Mag. I have gained a liking for this cartridge from the posts on THR. A left handed m77 Ruger would fill this want. The only thing I don't like about the rifle is the wing three position safety. I would prefer it in a laminated stock stainless steel version. A 375 HH or 416 Rem could fill the role, but the Ruger is a little more available currently and has more than enough oomph to get it done.

The third cartridge is the most difficult to pick from the many many other cartridges that I would like to try.

It's a Weatherby!!!! Ok not fair.
The rifle is a Weatherby MarkV ultra lightweight or Meateater edition.
Cartridge - 257 Weatherby or 6.5-300 Weatherby. The 6.5 to enter the current 6.5 craziness!!! The 257 as one of the top 2 pronghorn antelope rounds (25-06 the other).
Maybe I will get a chance to hunt them someday :)
