Just took my new T3 varmint in .223 out for the first time, it shoots great but is having extraction problems. It only extracts the cartidge about 30 percent of the time, all other times it pulls it halfway out and it bounces around in the gun. I'm using handloads w/ remington brass. I've noticed it doesn't do this with loaded rounds, those extract fine. Any ideas? Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks.

I have a T3 lite stainless in .308 and haven't had any problems. Perhaps your hand loads are out of spec.

Are you pulling it back with plenty of force?

Definetly.

I considered that so I ran some 50 gr. rem umc through it and it does the same thing.... hope I don't have to send it in!

How old is the gun? And is it in good shape? the only thing that I can think of is a part of the extraction mechanism is worn down.....im no gunsmith...:p

I cant believe my eyes...a problem with a T3:what: Look it over good it might be something simple.

I would say contact Tikka, I have NEVER heard of any problems like this with a tikka.

Nope, I'm calling Beretta (they control Tikka in the states) in the morning. Hopefully I can just send the bolt to them... If I have to ship the whole gun + have it shipped back + have it transferrred I could be out quite a bit of money. ($50-$75 to have a brand new $700 rifle fixed is ridiculous).

Anyone deal with Beretta support before?

You won't have to do transfers. You can ship directly and receive directly from a repair facility under the Federal law. Your state may be different, I dunno.

Any more updates? I am interested in how beretta handles this because I have been interested in Tikkas for a long time now.

I wouldn't be so quick to blame the gun or action. If it's cycling fine with regular loads it might be a personal problem. Overlook your case trim and COL lengths for your cartridge. Load your hand loads one at a time and eject them. Do the same with the regular loads. See if they are ejecting similar. Also clean your receiver thoroughly. Your gun might not like the cases, try a different brass. What ever you do, do not continue to fire or you will increase damage.

I considered the same thing, so I tried muliple brands of .223 in it and none extracted properly. The gun only cycles LOADED cartridges and it would do that with any brand, including handloads. It just wouldn't extract FIRED cartridges.

I sent the rifle off to Beretta on Monday, I'll update when I hear something.

Oh my fault, I guess I misunderstood the question. Im curious to the problem. If the thread is closed once the gun is returned send me a message. I'd like to hear what exactly the cycling issue was.

This is the first problem I have ever heard of in a Tikka rifle. I love my T3 and will buy nothing but Tikka in the future. Do not give up, once they fix the problem it will be an awsome gun.

My T3 in 270 Win is definitely the most accurate out of the box rifle I own. Also the smoothest action of all my guns. I have yet to have any problems. You may have gotten the first "lemon" Tikka in history! Save it it may be valuable one day.

Ok, an update, I finally got the rifle back today and it is extracting perfectly! In fact it flings those suckers out. They replaced the extractor and plunger. Hopefully it will be the end of the problems. Shipping/recieving it was a hassle, but Beretta fixed me up pretty good... two weeks turnaround isn't too bad in the gun industry.

So yeah, mark this down as the first tikka lemon, although it was remedied in a satisfactory manner.

Good to see they fixed it up for you. Two weeks turn around is very good compared to my two experience with Remington in the 90s. They had one of my 700s for more than six months and another for 4 months.

Had the exact same problem with my Tikka in .223 as well. Mine failed to eject about 10-20% of the time though. So not the only lemon in Tikka history.

I sent it in just today, I'm hoping the resolution is similar.

Problem seems to have fixed itself... Beretta said, "cannot duplicate customers complaint."

I ran 325 empty brass through and they all ejected. Who knows...

Problem returned, rifle being sent back to Beretta again. Hopefully they at least try to fix it this time.
