Newbie to the suppressor world. Got a Tikka T3 a couple of years ago and just got a threaded barrel(.308). Wanted to find out what suppressor would work for this rifle. Thanks for any help.

@MachIVshooter this is your department I believe

Thanks for the tag!

There are quite a few good options. Mechanically, any .30 caliber suppressor rated for .308 or more will work. Practically, you don't want a heavy can on a sporter you carry afield, and you don't need one with superalloys, material thicknesses and retention systems meant to handle full auto fire on your bolt action.

For a hunting rifle, most folks either go direct thread or use one of the lighter weight taper mount systems like Rearden/Cherry Bomb pattern. You don't need or want a secondary retention system like SilencerCo ASR or Dead Air Kyemo that's gonna add a half pound to the end of your gun between adapter and muzzle device.

Unless you have a pretty tight budget, you realistically want to be looking at titanium cans for a hunting rifle. Again, don't need the ability of 17-4 stainless steel, Inconel 718 or cobalt 6 to withstand 800°F, 1,000°F or more on a hunting rifle where the suppressor is unlikely to exceed 400° even with a "spirited" sight-in session. For a given material volume, Ti is 40% lighter than those alloys.

You also probably don't want to be adding a lot of length to a field gun. I generally find 7-8" suppressor length fairly ideal; longer becomes obnoxious to carry in the field, snagging tree branches, but shorter than 6.5" or 7" will start to get pretty barky even with premium state-of-the-art and girthy critters.

Fully welded suppressors of tubeless construction will give the most internal volume and lightest weight for the exterior dimensions. Our offering in the lightweight titanium rifle suppressor market is our Accipiter Ti, which comes in at 9.3 ounces in 8" .30 cal configuration before mount, with mount weights starting at about 1 ounce for titanium direct thread.

If I weren't running our own, I would probably be using Thunderbeast for hunting rifles, most likely an Ultra 7 since they don't have an 8" Ultra and I'm not big on 1.75" and fatter suppressors.
