Recent purchased a Tikka T3 Varmint in 223 caliber. I am quite pleased in its performance so far at the range. Shoots most anything you feed it and accurately. Just got around measuring the chamber and came up with a measurement of 2.240.Does anyone out there have any figures similar to what I found. Measured the chamber with the Hornady AOL gauge as well as the split neck method and the "taped rod" procedure? I want to load some longer bullets that require a throat length up to 2.260. What are my options?

With every different bullet the ogive is going to be different. I have several min spec chambers and with some bullets I have to load 0.030" below what the recommended book OAL is. This seams to be true for a lot of light bullets. With the long ELD type bullets I have no problem due to the slim profile. So the only way to know is try it with the bullets your going to use.

You must repeat any of those methods you used with the specific bullet you are wanting to use.

Thanks Varminterror for your response. This was tried with a specific bullet that I wanted to use. Sierra 69gr HPBT Matchking calling for a coal of 2.260. My barrel gave me a COAL of 2.236 with a CBTO of 1.860. I have not gone any further with developing a load until I get some advise hopefully from this forum

My experience with Sierra Bullets tells me to use a 0.025-0.030" jump to land. This has always given me the best grouping.

My min spec 223R chambers will take the 69gs SMK at 2.260" but the 52gr and 53 gr SMK's are jammed into the lands. Almost sounds like they did not give you any free bore on your chamber. I would confirm that your measurements are correct and contact the mfg. May have gone out the door without the finish reamer being used.

Thanks Blue. I'll try giving them a call.
