Just saw that Tip Curtis of Cross Plains, TN has passed away. For those who never had the chance to meet him, Tip was a prolific gun builder and long time fixture at the national shoots at Friendship. He tended to mix styles on some of his rifles and smoothbores but they were all made from top shelf parts and could bring home the game or the medals. He will be missed by many.

Wow. I bought a lot of stuff from Tip Curtis too. Even picked up a one piece brass ram rod for a friend of mine the last time I saw him.

I believe Tippy, his son, is still keeping the Frontier Shop open in Cross Plains, TN for folks wanting black powder guns and accessories. Tip was well-known at Friendship on Commercial Row at the National Matches. One of his specialties was (and still is) his stock of drop-in Green Mountain barrels for the T/C Hawken rifle in calibers from .36 to .54 cal. Tip was a great guy. RIP.
